Afraid youll lose your vaccination card? Then why not get a tattoo of it?
Well, thats exactly what Italian Andrea Colonnetta did. The 22-year-old student opted to get his COVID-19 vaccination QR code tattooed on his arm just in case he forgets to bring it with him.
Proof of vaccination is required in most Italian indoor venues. Telling the;Corriere della Calabria newspaper, Colonnetta said, Its certainly something original I like to be different.;
Certainly they encouraged me to be less impulsive and to better reflect on things, he told the publication.
His ink went viral after one of his friends was able to scan his arm with his phone to see if the proof would actually come up digitally. A video of the exchange was posted on his TikTok and many were amazed at the feat. In another video, Colonnetta used his tattoo to eat indoors at a McDonalds.;
Mario Draghi, the prime minister of Italy, issued an order in early August decreeing that a green pass system would be put into place. The process was established to create an easier way for citizens to show their vaccination proof in order to enter public spaces such as restaurants, gyms and coffee shops. By September, schools and mass transit areas will also require a green pass for entry.
While the systems have proved to have higher vaccination rates, there are some side effects attached to them. QR code tattoos need to be designed just right in order for them to work properly.
Toss Your Mask And Stop Social Distancing Afterward
You’re not considered fully vaccinated against COVID-19 until 14 days after your final dose of the vaccine. So if you’ve only received your first dose of the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine, or it hasn’t been two weeks since your second dose , you still need to follow basic COVID-19 prevention guidelines. Even after that time, you should continue to wear a mask until the CDC and World Health Organization deem that it’s OK to stop using them.

Important Do’s And Don’ts For Getting Your Covid
Ready to take the plunge and get the COVID vaccine? These tips will make your upcoming appointment a breeze.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 59% of people ages 12 and older in the US are fully vaccinated, which leaves a significant number of people who still have at least one shot left to go. If you’re ready to take the plunge and get your first or second shot of the COVID vaccine, you might be feeling a bit nervous about how it’ll go.
It’s normal to be nervous about getting your COVID-19 vaccine. The vaccines are, after all, relatively new compared to other decades-old vaccines. For many, the novelty of the COVID-19 vaccine causes some anxiety and hesitation. However, public health officials regard the COVID-19 vaccine as safe, and it’s important that we all do our part to end the pandemic.;
One cure for anxiety is preparation. Curb any anxiety you might be feeling about your vaccination appointment by getting prepared with these do’s and don’ts.;
The Importance Of Aftercare
Its worth noting that tattoo artists should offer some guidelines about skin care after receiving a tattoo. According to one study of licensed tattooists in New York City, 56% received training on tattoo-related skin conditions, but 92% were consulted about skin issues by their clients.
Most tattoo artists are interested in learning more about skin conditions related to tattoos. However, with only about half reporting being trained, its important to note that adverse reactions may need to be evaluated by a dermatologist.
Some tips to keep in mind before and after getting a tattoo:
- Seek out a reputable, licensed tattoo artist, and ask questions about tattoos and autoimmune conditions.
- The skin in the area to be tattooed should be disinfected before starting.
- Tattoo artists should wear gloves while working.
- Equipment used should be from sealed packages to ensure they are sterile and only used once.
- Nondisposable equipment should be cleaned using a machine that sterilizes them with heat .
- After the tattoo is complete, keep the area clean with soap and water, avoid exposing it to the sun, use a moisturizer, and dont go swimming.
- Dont scratch or pick at any scabs that form on the tattoo.
- It can take a few weeks for a tattoo to heal, so its important to continue any aftercare instructions during that time.

Should You Wait Between Getting A Tattoo And A Covid
Tattoo artists, like New York City’s Rachel Finelli a.k.a. , have been getting several emails from their clients with the same exact inquiry: I’m getting the COVID-19 vaccine this week and heard I should wait a couple of days before getting tattooed. Should I reschedule my appointment?;
Many tattooists haven’t been able to give their clients a clear answer, and well, doctors don’t really have one either. Because the vaccines are so new, info on this topic is limited. Michael Chang, a professor of pediatric infectious diseases at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth in Houston, owes this to the fact that “the ages where most people get vaccinations children under 12 and adults over 60 are not as actively getting tattoos as everyone in between,” he tells Allure.;
However, doctors were able to share some helpful insight with Allure for you to consider before scheduling your vaccine and tattoo appointments.;
First and foremost, there are no contraindications to receive a COVID-19 vaccine shortly before or after getting a tattoo at this time. A specific wait time between getting vaccinated and tattooed also hasn’t been recommended either. “Based on how the various vaccines work, whether mRNA or adenoviral vector-based, there isn’t any reason to think getting a tattoo would influence how well the vaccines work,” Chang says. “Also, there isn’t any reason you can’t get the vaccine through the site of a previous tattoo that I am aware of.”;

Is It Safe To Get A Tattoo After You Get The Vaccine

As state and local municipalities fully reopen and more people receive their COVID-19 vaccines, tattoo artists are suddenly in high demand. Some shops continued working in limited capacity during the pandemic, but the current availability of vaccines is encouraging the previously hesitant to get inked.
Tattoo shops have been in a fortunate position during the pandemic, which has allowed them to adapt to enhanced COVID-19 safety precautions. Due to the nature of the job, tattoo artists are already extremely diligent about cleaning and sanitizing workspaces between clients to prevent cross-contamination.
Many shops added temperature checks and face coverings to their list of requirements, getting a tattoo after a full vaccination should present very minimal risk. Getting a tattoo is just as safe as visiting a salon or the dentist, particularly if people continue to mask up.
Some potential patrons are also wondering if getting a tattoo soon after a COVID vaccine can affect the vaccines efficacy. Should we be spacing out our vaccines and tattoos?
If a fresh tattoo too closely follows a COVID vaccine, it may make monitoring side effects more difficult.

Why Ink Color May Matter
The exact extent of adverse reactions to tattoos is not well understood in the United States. The color of the ink may be related to the risk of inflammation, allergic reactions, and hypersensitivity, because of certain ingredients, including chromium in green ink, cadmium in yellow ink, mercury salt in red ink, and cobalt in blue ink.
In one study of people with tattoos who were selected at random in New York Citys Central Park, 10% had an adverse reaction to a tattoo. For 42% of those who described the reaction as related to the colors used in the tattoo, red was the culprit.
While 90% of those surveyed had black ink in their tattoos, only 25% reported a reaction. The authors of the study conclude that such reactions to tattoos are common.
Testing the ink with a patch test on the skin may or may not be helpful. People who had a reaction to a tattoo who were later given a patch test with red ink did not have the same reaction.
Its thought that the process of receiving the ink during the tattoo session is different enough from a patch test that they are not equivalent. However, reputable tattoo artists will help with completing patch tests when clients have a concern about an allergic reaction.;

Dont Book A Tattoo Or Piercing Right After If You Can Help It
The skin is your first barrier against pathogens, and its designed to trigger immune responses. Body modification like tattooing or piercing can stimulate an immune response that you might not want to experience in combination with an immune response from the vaccine, Fuller said.
It really comes into the bucket of It could, but we dont know for sure, she said about whether a tattoo following a COVID-19 vaccine could trigger an adverse immune response.
So just as a precaution, maybe not schedule your tattooing appointment two weeks before or after your vaccinations, she said.

Scan Here : Italian Tattoos Covid Vaccine Pass On Arm
A 22-year-old student in Italy has become an unexpected Internet sensation after tattooing the barcode of his Covid certificate on his arm.
Andrea Colonnetta said he hadn’t given much thought in advance before getting his latest tattoo, but decided on the topical — and practical — choice after talking with tattoo artist Gabriele Pellerone.
“It’s certainly something original, I like to be different,” Colonnetta, from the southern city of Reggio Calabria, told Corriere della Calabria newspaper.
The underside of Colonnetta’s left arm now bears a matrix of black squares from the QR code of his official Italian green pass.
The pass gives proof of coronavirus status — that you are vaccinated, have recovered from the virus or tested negative in the last 48 hours.
An extension of the EU’s digital Covid certificate, it has been required in Italy since August 6 to get into cinemas, museums and indoor sports venues or to eat indoors at restaurants.
Colonnetta, who said he had received both doses of a coronavirus vaccine, said although he has received lots of attention on Instagram and TikTok, his parents were left a bit perplexed.
“Certainly they encouraged me to be less impulsive and to better reflect on things…” he told the paper.
But his new barcode works, he said: a video posted on TikTok by Pellerone shows a masked Colonnetta entering McDonald’s and lifting his arm to take a photo of his tattoo.
Hesitate To Report Side Effects
If you experience symptoms after your vaccine, report them on V-safe, no matter how minor you think they are. This information helps the CDC track side effects and monitor severe adverse events. It also helps with future vaccine development.;

Health Officials May Also Choose To Administer Two Different Vaccines Within A Shorter Period Of Time
According to the CDC, there may be times when the coronavirus vaccine and other vaccines need to be administered within two weeks of each other. This would be in situations “where the benefits of vaccination are deemed to outweigh the potential unknown risks of vaccine coadministration,” the agency explains. This can includebut is not limited totetanus vaccination for wound management, rabies vaccination after exposure, and measles or hepatitis A vaccination during an outbreak. The CDC says the COVID vaccine may also be given within two weeks of another in order to avoid barriers or delays, like for a long-term care facility resident or healthcare worker who received the flu vaccine right before entering the facility or getting hired. And for more on vaccine safety, If You Have These Vaccine Side Effects, Don’t Get Another Shot, CDC Says.
