Last night on Real Time with Bill Maher, the HBO host returned to the air for the first time since November to kick off Season 20 of the show. During his opening monologue he told his studio audience that it was wonderful to see your beautiful masks again.

Most of the episode was dedicated to discussing the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the fatigue that many are facing as a result. Maher and his panel guests looked back on the events that have occurred since his Season 19 finale in November, including the highly transmissible Omicron variant that surfaced.

Author/journalist Bari Weiss and New York Congressman Ritchie Torres joined Maher to discuss the hot topic.

Maher noted that theres A reset going on in the world. We have to live with . Its not going away. Torees agreed.

I think were gradually transitioning to normal, Weiss added, Im done with Covid. She also noted, however, that We havent gotten back to normal. And its ridiculous at this point.

Weiss elaborated on her frustration, stating that many people she knows were afraid to have an opinion on masks or vaccine passports for fear of being labeled and criticized by others. Its like, at this point, its a pandemic of bureaucracy, she said.

The point is if youre choosing not to get , were not stopping the world for the sake of those foolish people, Weiss agreed.

Bill Maher Cancels Real Time Again This Week After Positive Coronavirus Test

HBOs Real Time with Bill Maher will be off again this week as the show continues its safety protocols following the hosts COVID-19 diagnosis.

Maher revealed last week that hed tested positive for the coronavirus during the shows routine testing process. It was expected hed need to take at least two weeks off before returning to the program.

Maher, who is vaccinated and asymptomatic, is now slated to return to his HBO slot on May 28. Instead of running a new Real Time episode this week, HBO is filling the slot with an encore of the fifth episode of Mare of Eastown.

Asymptomatic carriers of the coronavirus can still pass it on to other people in close quarters. One of the dangers of being an asymptomatic carrier is the person with the virus often doesnt realize they have it until theyre tested, and by then, they could have unknowingly transmitted it. Its been estimated that up to 50% of people who test positive for COVID-19 dont have symptoms.

Thankfully, HBOs COVID-19 testing protocols caught Mahers diagnosis early and he was able to quarantine even though it meant two weeks off from Real Time. In a tweet after his May 13 diagnosis, Maher said he was disappointed hed missed a show for the first time since 1993, but said hes been vaccinated and felt perfectly fine.

Indeed, Maher is fully vaccinated against the disease and, as HBO said when it was announced that the taping of his May 14 show would be canceled when he tested positive during weekly checks of the shows staff, the host was asymptomatic and felt fine.

Maher echoed that sentiment in a tweet posted the day the news broke and another on May 21, when HBO noted that Real Time would be off again that night and set to return on May 28.

Thanks to all wishing me get well hard to do since I feel perfectly fine, but I appreciate it! Most upset about ending my streak going back to 1993 of never missing a Politically Incorrect or Real Time episode. Oh well, even Cal Ripken had to sit one out at some point,Maher wrote on May 13.

Last week he apologized for missing another show and wrote, I assure and thank all well-wishers I was never sick and feel great and will be back next week.

Onstage Friday night, Maher said the vaccine probably helped him not get sick.

Did it help? Probably? I dont know. We dont know. Yes, probably. I dont know, he said. You know, most people who got the thing never got very sick. Less than 4 percent went to the hospital I know media doesnt like to talk about that! Its something to be respected? Obviously, yes. And so, good. The point is, I had it!

He also marveled at people wondering how he could have tested positive if he was vaccinated.

It happens! They never said it was 100 percent effective, Maher said.

Bill Maher Says He’ll Refuse Covid Vaccine Booster

Bill Maher Accuses the Media of Spreading Coronavirus Panic Porn

Liberal chat show host Bill Maher has announced he has no plans to get a COVID vaccine booster shot – and said he only got vaccinated in the first place to ‘take one for the team.’

On Friday’s episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, the 64 year-old said: ‘I never wanted the vaccine, I took one for the team.

‘And by the way, do you know who doesn’t get a lot of vaccines? Millennials,’ Maher said. ‘I know a lot of millennials, especially the 20 year-olds, they don’t think they need it, they’re probably right. But I tell them I didn’t want it either – I took one for the team.

‘But every eight months you’re going to put this sh*t in me?’ he asked, rhetorically. ‘I don’t know about that.

‘Maybe I don’t need one,’ he said. ‘I don’t want a one-size fits all. My body may be different than your body.’

President Biden meanwhile was busy celebrating the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine being approved by the FDA.

Biden, speaking at the White House, portrayed it as a huge victory even though it will be of limited practical value months after the vaccination received emergency approval.

Even so, he spoke directly to what he said were ‘millions’ of Americans who may have been waiting for full approval before trusting the jab – even though the shots have been going in arms since December 2020.

‘It has now happened,’ Biden said. ‘The moment youve been waiting for is here. Its time for you go get your vaccine. Get it today.’

Sure some doctors may not be straightforward and tell you incorrect information. Similarly some TV personalities or talk show hosts may tell people to fat shame more, as Maher has done previously, even though fat shaming can cause real harm, as I have covered previously for Forbes. Some TV talk show hosts may blame, of all people, Asians for the lack of diversity in Hollywood, when those of Asian-descent are largely absent from most mainstream Hollywood movies. For example, Asian Americans appear as leads in Hollywood movies such as rom-coms about as often as cats do. Some TV talk show hosts will even have as guests pediatricians who advance debunked theories about vaccines, as Nina Shapiro, MD, covered previously for Forbes.

Therefore, you shouldnt listen to all doctors just like you shouldnt listen to all TV personalities and talk show hosts. Quality and choosing the right doctors matter. Contrary to what Maher is suggesting, there are plenty of doctors who believe in being transparent and sticking to scientific facts whenever they can.

Then theres former U.S. President and current Mar-A-Lago resident Donald Trump. Remember the number of times Trump said that the Covid-19 coronavirus pandemic will turn the corner or round the corner throughout much of 2020? Well, that certainly has been one freaking gigantic corner.
