Am I Required To Wear A Mask In The Airport And On The Plane

Yes. Federal law requires each person to wear a mask at all times in the airport and throughout the flight, including during boarding and deplaning. Refusing to wear a mask is a violation of federal law and may result in denial of boarding, removal from the aircraft, and/or penalties under federal law. The Top Health Adviser To Biden Previously Expressed Support For A Mandate

Do you need a COVID test before you fly? Wake Up Charlotte: March 8

Amid a growing push for passengers on domestic flights to show proof of vaccination, top infectious-disease expert Anthony S. Fauci said he doesnt see it happening in the near future.

His statement came Sunday during an appearance on CNNs State of the Union, after anchor Dana Bash asked if he would like an air travel vaccine mandate in effect for the holidays. He said such a decision would be made with input from a number of parts of the government.

On the table is the issue of mandates for vaccine, said Fauci, President Bidens chief medical adviser. Its always discussable, we always wind up discussing it, but right now I dont see that immediately.

Late last month, Sen. Dianne Feinstein introduced a bill that would make vaccination, a negative coronavirus test or proof of recent recovery from the virus mandatory to fly domestically. Earlier in the month, Rep. Don Beyer proposed legislation to require proof of vaccination or a negative test for domestic air or Amtrak travelers.

Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told The Washington Post last month that he would support a vaccine mandate for domestic flights if Biden wanted to move forward with one.

During the interview Sunday, he declined to weigh in on whether he supported a mandate, saying he did not want his comments to be taken out of context.

We have everything on the table, and it will be discussed by the medical group, he said.

  • What Problems Could Arise If A Vaccine Mandate Is Put In Place For Passengers

“Trying to move it to the passengers — it’s going to lead to a lot of challenges and I think a lot of unhappy consumers and some further losses to the airline industry, which has really suffered quite a bit in the last year and a half,” Hamer said of a vaccine mandate.

Hamer, who sits on the Flight Safety Foundation, a private nonprofit whose mission is to enhance education and improve flight safety, pointed to a turbulent past few days for Southwest Airlines. The Dallas-based carrier has canceled well over 2,000 flights coast to coast since Saturday, creating a domino effect at airports across the country.

The airline said bad weather and air traffic control issues in Florida kicked off the problems, which snowballed due to its own staffing shortfall, particularly a lack of backup pilots and flight attendants to step in when things go wrong. Other airlines had relatively minor cancellations.

“It is an issue and it’s actually generated problems,” Hamer said. “You never know, when you make a reservation, whether it’s going to stay as that reservation. They may rebook you to try and limit the number of outgoing flights and so if we do something — if there’s a mandate to require vaccination of every passenger — that would exacerbate that situation.”

What Are You Doing To Continue To Support Physical Distancing And Hygiene Practices At The Airport

We will continue to be vigilant with physical distancing and hygiene practices at all Alert Levels.

Frequent cleaning remains a priority. High-touch points as well as any surface, which appears to have been contaminated by coughing/sneezing, will be cleaned as quickly as possible.

We continue to recommend checking-in online or via the Air New Zealand App before heading to the airport. Online check-in is available 24 hours before the departure of your flight. You can here.

All passengers are required to wear a face-covering in the airport and on all Air New Zealand operated flights.

    Providing Proof Of Your Result

    All US

When you arrive at the border, you must present an accepted test result which must include:

    • Traveller name and date of birth
    • Name and civic address of the laboratory/clinic/facility that administered the test
    • The date on which the test was conducted
    • The type of test conducted
    • The test result

You must show proof of your test results even if you:

    • have tested negative for COVID-19 previous to the 72 hour period
    • have been vaccinated for COVID-19

Keep proof of your test results with you for the 14-day period that begins on the day you enter Canada.

At this time, travellers should have their test performed at a reputable laboratory or testing facility .

    All travellers must:

    • provide one of the accepted types of tests, not an antigen test
    • keep proof of your test results for the 14-day period that begins on the day you enter Canada

, in addition to a fine of $5000 under the Quarantine Act, if the same false document is also presented upon entry into Canada.

Violating any instructions provided when you enter Canada or putting others at risk of a serious communicable disease are offences under the Quarantine Act and could lead to up to three years in prison and/or up to $1 million in fines.

    How Can I Fly Safely

The doctors’ safety advice is simple: wear a mask. And wear it as often as possible.

“I advise people who are traveling by air, bus or train to wear a good, well-fitting mask that has good filtration,” Doron said.

“That’s absolutely key,” Hamer added. “People should wear a good mask and wear it for the whole time they’re on a plane, anytime they’re in a crowd, waiting to line up to board the plane, any public transportation that they might take to and from the airline.”

The biggest risk for an in-flight outbreak is during mealtime on longer flights, Hamer noted, because people are generally being served around the same time.

“I think being really careful with any mask removal during flights is going to be really important,” he said.

Requirement For Proof Of Negative Covid

If you plan to travel internationally, you will need to get a viral test no more than 3 days before you travel by air into the United States and show your negative result to the airline before you board your flight, or be prepared to show documentation of recovery .

On January 12, 2021, CDC announced an Order requiring all air passengers arriving to the US from a foreign country to get tested no more than 3 days before their flight departs and to present the negative result or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 to the airline before boarding the flight. Air passengers will also be required to confirm that the information they present is true in the form of an attestation. This Order is effective as of 12:01am EST on January 26, 2021.

For the full list of requirements and exemptions, please review the language in the Order.

    International Travel Recommendations

International travel poses additional risks and even fully vaccinated travelers are at increased risk for getting and possibly spreading new COVID-19 variants.

CDC recommends delaying international travel until you are fully vaccinated.

Follow CDCs after international travel recommendations.
