American Airlines Coronavirus Testing
American Airlines was among the first airlines to introduce testing as part of the preflight process, and currently offers at-home and in-person testing for its passengers. You will upload your test results to VeriFLY, a secure mobile app which helps streamline this and other AA preflight travel requirements. American Airlines does not require COVID-19 testing for domestic flights, although the CDC recommends unvaccinated travelers get tested one to three days before traveling. Check local government regulations before domestic travel to determine if a test is required.
At-home testing. Initially starting on routes to Hawaii, American has partnered with LetsGetChecked to administer at-home PCR tests. Now, passengers flying to Belize , Grenada , St. Lucia and Chile will have the opportunity to receive these at-home testing kits prior to departure. These tests have a 48-hour turnaround time and will be followed up with a virtual visit by a medical professional.
You can purchase an at-home test kit for $129. It’s recommended that you purchase your test at least five days before departure.
Testing requirements vary depending on the location, so you’ll want to make sure you check American Airlines’ website and your destination’s tourism board prior to your trip. Some places require a negative test result within 72 hours of departure, while others have a seven-day window.
Fully Vaccinated Vs Unvaccinated Requirements
The CDC recommends delaying travel until you are fully vaccinated due to increased chance of getting and spreading COVID-19. All travelers should still follow CDCs recommendations for traveling safely by wearing a mask over your nose and mouth, stay 6 feet from others and avoid crowds, and wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer.
- Vaccinated Travel– Fully vaccinated travelers do not need to get tested before or after travel unless their destination requires it and do not need to self-quarantine for travel within the United States and U.S. territories.
- Unvaccinated Travel – If you are not fully vaccinated and must travel, follow CDCs recommendations:
- Get tested;with a;viral test;3-5 days after traveland stay home and self-quarantine for a full 7 days after travel.E ven if you test negative, stay home and self-quarantine for the full 7 days. If your test is positive,;isolate;yourself to protect others from getting infected. If you dont get tested, stay home and self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.
- Avoid being around people who are at;increased risk for severe illness;for 14 days, whether you get tested or not. Self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms; isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms.
Check if your destination requires quarantine or testing. Testing options are available for those who need it for other destinations or other requirements; Please do not travel if you have symptoms or feel ill.

How To Get A Covid
If you need to take a COVID-19 test before flying, there are more testing options than ever before. Many airlines have made it easier to find a test before travel, as more destinations require proof of a negative result upon arrival or even before you board.
You can also schedule a test outside of the options offered by your airline. Many drug stores, urgent care facilities and hospitals offer coronavirus testing, and in many cases, free-of-charge. You could save a lot of money by coordinating your own tests, especially if you’re traveling in groups. However, keep these factors in mind when scheduling your COVID-19 test:
For the most accurate information, confirm with the tourism board and any official government resources from your destination to get a COVID-19 test for travel.
Where Can I Find Information About Airline Hotel And Car Rental Policies
Some companies offer that information for subscribers. TripActions, a cloud-based travel management platform, recently introduced a know before you go section that offers up-to-date information on cancellation policies, loyalty program updates, unused ticket credit applications and safety enhancements from major airlines and hotels. But your company will need to be a TripActions customer to get the information in one place.;
By the way, you can also consult Sherpa, which provides some of the information to TripActions. For example, it lists the countries that are open to U.S. travelers. Sherpa also has information on the policies travelers need to know, including COVID-19 testing, quarantine measures, masking guidelines, and in-destination testing locations.;
If you’re concerned about rapidly changing regulations try Borderless, a site by travel insurance company SafetyWing. It offers updates and email alerts on travel restrictions, containment measures and vaccination information around the globe. Many of these online resources will also tell you if you need a COVID test to travel.

Us Rep Don Beyer Introduces Bill To Require Vaccines Or Negative Coronavirus Test For Domestic Travel
Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., introduced a bill on Thursday to require all domestic travelers to show proof of vaccination or a negative coronavirus test at airports or for Amtrak trips, seeking to revive largely stagnant discussions among federal officials about more restrictive pandemic travel requirements.
The bill, the Safe Travel Act, would also require all Amtrak, airport and air carrier employees or contractors to be vaccinated or submit to weekly testing. Unvaccinated travelers would have to present a negative test within 72 hours before travel.
Beyer, who chairs the House Science, Space, and Technology subcommittee on space and aeronautics, said in a statement that the proposal would help make people comfortable traveling again by putting basic requirements in place that prevent the spread of COVID.
Requiring airport and Amtrak travelers and employees to provide a proof of COVID vaccine or negative test is just common sense, Beyer said. These are easy steps we can take to make travel safer, as companies like United have already demonstrated with responsible policy changes.
Beyers proposal comes as the spread of the delta variant has upended progress the country has made toward suppressing the coronavirus, forcing many to reconsider travel plans, and as more governmental and private entities introduce vaccine mandates for employees including airlines.
Have You Been Fully Vaccinated
People are considered fully vaccinated*:
- 2 weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or
- 2 weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnsons Janssen vaccine
If you dont meet these requirements, you are NOT fully vaccinated. Keep taking all precautions;until you are fully vaccinated.
If you have a condition or are taking medication that weakens your immune system, you may NOT be fully protected even if you are fully vaccinated. Talk to your healthcare provider. Even after vaccination, you may need to continue taking all precautions.
- During Travel
- Wearing a mask over your nose and mouth is required on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of the United States and while indoors at U.S. transportation hubs such as airports and stations. Travelers are not required to wear a mask in outdoor areas of a conveyance .
- Follow allstate and localrecommendations and requirements, including mask wearing and social distancing.
- In areas with high numbers of COVID-19 cases, consider wearing a mask in crowded outdoor settings and for activities with close contact with others who are not fully vaccinated.
You do NOT need to get tested or self-quarantine if you are fully vaccinated or have recovered from COVID-19 in the past 3 months. You should still follow all other travel recommendations.

Please keep your face covering on as you pass through security, although you may be asked to remove it if you are selected for an additional search.
Please bear with us if things take slightly longer at security as our teams adapt to new ways of working. Well have you on your way as quickly as possible.
