Does American Airlines Require Covid Testing

United Airlines Coronavirus Testing

American Airlines Offers Preflight COVID-19 Testing for All US Destinations with Travel Requirements

United Airlines flies to Hawaii and many international destinations requiring a negative COVID-19 test result upon arrival. In fact, United is the only airline that is currently piloting its required rapid test before boarding completely free-of-charge for all passengers.

Flights to Latin America and the Caribbean. United has partnered with ADL Health to provide at-home PCR test kits for certain flyers. Starting Dec. 7, 2020, United travelers from Houston Intercontinental Airport can order this kit if they’re flying to the following destinations:

  • Aruba
  • San Pedro Sula, Honduras
  • San Salvador, El Salvador
  • Tegucigalpa, Honduras

Eligible customers will receive information about the test and a purchase link via email 14 days before departure. Travelers must mail their test back 72 hours before travel and will receive their results via email within 24 to 48 hours before their flight. Each test costs $119.

Flights from San Francisco to Hawaii. United has partnered with two companies, Dignity Health-GoHealth Urgent Care and Color, to offer both day-of and drive-through testing for travelers flying from San Francisco to Hawaii. United recommends scheduling your appointment as soon as you receive an email.

For day-of testing, you can visit the international terminal at Courtyard A. You must pre-register to reserve a timeslot. These tests cost $250 each, and results will come out within 15 minutes.

Requirement For Proof Of Negative Covid

If you plan to travel internationally, you will need to get a viral test no more than 3 days before you travel by air into the United States and show your negative result to the airline before you board your flight, or be prepared to show documentation of recovery .

On January 12, 2021, CDC announced an Order;requiring all air passengers arriving to the US from a foreign country to get tested no more than 3 days before their flight departs and to present the negative result or documentation of having recovered from COVID-19 to the airline before boarding the flight. Air passengers will also be required to confirm that the information they present is true in the form of an attestation. This Order is effective as of 12:01am EST on January 26, 2021.

For the full list of requirements and exemptions, please review the language in the Order.

International Travel Recommendations

International travel poses additional risks and even fully vaccinated travelers are at increased risk for getting and possibly spreading new COVID-19 variants.

CDC recommends delaying international travel;until you are fully vaccinated.

Follow CDCs after international travel;recommendations.

Employees Can Seek Waivers On Medical Or Religious Grounds

Employees can seek waivers from the vaccines on medical or religious grounds. United is placing most of those workers on unpaid leave until COVID-19 rates come down.

Southwest says it is studying Biden’s order. Both Southwest and American are under pressure from their pilot groups not to require vaccinations but to instead offer options, including testing.

The White House adviser’s calls with airline CEOs were reported earlier by Reuters.

At least two members of Congress Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va. have proposed requiring that passengers on domestic flights be vaccinated or show proof of a negative test for COVID-19 before they fly.

Anthony Fauci, the government’s top expert on infectious disease, supports that approach for domestic flights, and travelers entering the country must present a negative test before boarding. The Biden administration has not ruled out the idea, which the airlines oppose strongly.

Carenow American Airlines Team Up For Covid

CareNow, a nationwide urgent care provider that is part of HCA Healthcare, has teamed up with American Airlines to provide pre-flight COVID-19 testing to passengers traveling to 13 international destinations and Hawaii.

COVID-19 pre-travel testing is available for American Airlines passengers traveling to the following destinations: Aruba; Bogota, Colombia; Belize; Guatemala; Hawaii; London, England; Montego Bay, Jamaica; Nassau, Bahamas; Roatan, Honduras; San Salvador, El Salvador; San Pedro Sula, Honduras; Santiago, Chile; St. Thomas, Virgin Islands; and Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

The partnership provides COVID-19 testing to travelers at three CareNow clinics in the Northern Virginia area located at: 4995 Westone Plaza, in Chantilly; 3456 Historic Sully Way, in Chantilly; and 200 Potomac Run Plaza, in Sterling.

CareNow locations can administer either on-site rapid or PCR COVID-19 tests which are sent to area labs. Rapid test results are ready in less than 15 minutes. Travelers can visit one of the participating CareNow Northern Virginia locations for COVID-19 tests prior to their trip and ensure results can be delivered in time for their flight.

After completing a rapid test, patients will receive a paper and electronic copy of their test results. Patients taking a PCR lab test will receive only an electronic copy of results. Travelers should provide proof of their test during airline check-in or via the VeriFLY app to comply with COVID-19 requirements.

American Airlines Will Let Travelers Use Digital Vaccine Passports In Lieu Of Carrying Paper Copies

Passengers can safely upload their vaccination documents prior to leaving for the airport.

Mask and travel restrictions are slowly being lifted for those vaccinated against Covid-19, but the concept of carrying around a paper vaccination card in order to show proof seems not only tedious but also unsustainable.

For major airlines, venues and high-traffic spaces, it seems as though proving vaccination through a digital portal, card or app might be a easier and more convenient.

This week, American Airlines announced that it will be doing precisely that for travelers jet-setting out of the country to the Bahamas, El Salvador and Guatemala.

Through the VeriFLY app, passengers can safely upload their vaccination documents prior to leaving for the airport and make the process of traveling abroad that much more streamlined.

As countries reopen to those who have been vaccinated, we are ready with VeriFLY to help our customers travel with confidence, vice president of customer experience at American Airlines, Julie Rath, says.

Customers flying to the three approved international destinations can upload a photo of their vaccination cards directly into the app for review. They will then receive either a pass or fail message.

Travelers who pass the vaccination requirements will eventually have to re-enter their information within a given time window, with the app prompting them to do so when necessary.

American Airlines has recently made a series of announcements regarding coronavirus testing for destinations like Chile, the Caribbean, and the UK and now it has announced that it will be the first airline to expand access to at-home coronavirus testing for all flights to US locations that have COVID-19 related restrictions, including Puerto Rico.

From 9 December 2020, American Airlines will offer all customers traveling any US city, state, or territory that has implemented COVID-19 related travel restrictions, access to at-home testing through LetsGetChecked for travel on or after 12 December 2020.

Current cities, states, and territories with COVID-19 travel restrictions include:

  • Alaska
  • Rhode Island
  • Vermont

The LetsgetChecked test costs $129 and although its an at-home test it requires travelers to have their test observed by a medical professional via virtual visit test results are expected in 48 hours on average.

How To Get A Covid

If you need to take a COVID-19 test before flying, there are more testing options than ever before. Many airlines have made it easier to find a test before travel, as more destinations require proof of a negative result upon arrival or even before you board.

You can also schedule a test outside of the options offered by your airline. Many drug stores, urgent care facilities and hospitals offer coronavirus testing, and in many cases, free-of-charge. You could save a lot of money by coordinating your own tests, especially if you’re traveling in groups. However, keep these factors in mind when scheduling your COVID-19 test:

For the most accurate information, confirm with the tourism board and any official government resources from your destination to get a COVID-19 test for travel.

American Airlines Passengers Can Upload Covid

Travelers can now use the app when flying to Canada and the U.K.

American Airlines passengers traveling internationally can now use a health passport app, with the capability to upload test results and required documents before boarding.

Launched in January, the carrier partnered with biometric authentication provider VeriFLY to give travelers a streamlined experience, keeping all their documents in one place.

The app which was initially available to international travelers arriving to the U.S. and customers who are traveling from the U.S. to Jamaica, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, and Honduras has expanded to direct and connecting flights to the United Kingdom and Canada.

“We are constantly looking at ways to make travel easier and simpler for our customers, and navigating testing requirements and validation is a big piece of that,” Julie Rath, Vice President of Customer Experience, said in a statement Wednesday, regarding the expansion of the app. “All of our airports will now accept customers’ testing verification via the VeriFLY app…With more partners like British Airways and others across the industry expanding their acceptance of VeriFLY, we can further our common goal of preventing the spread of COVID-19 and ensure compliance with local regulations that have been put in place to protect our customers and team members.”

American Airlines Customers Can Now Use Verifly To Confirm Vaccination Status

As more countries and destinations adopt policies requiring travelers to provide proof of their COVID-19 vaccination status, American Airlines is getting ahead of the curve by partnering with identity assurance solutions provider Daon to integrate its mobile app VeriFLY into global operations.

This new digital health passport works in real-time, enabling users to produce their COVID-related credentials before they even set foot inside the airport.

Customers using VeriFLY can now take advantage of the option to upload their vaccination documents when flying to the Bahamas, El Salvador and Guatemala. Users just need to upload photos of both sides of their COVID-19 vaccine card or record into the app. The professionals at VeriFLY will then review the documentation to ensure it fulfills destination requirements.

The VeriFLY app takes the confusion out of COVID-era travel by having users enter their origin and destination, then guiding them through the relevant COVID-19 entry requirements. Customers upload photos of their health documentation directly to the app, which validates whether the destination countrys requirements are met, and then produces either a simple pass or fail message.

Cdc Expands Negative Covid

For Immediate Release: Tuesday, January 12, 2021Contact:;Media Relations 639-3286

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is expanding the requirement for a negative COVID-19 test to all air passengers entering the United States.; Testing before and after travel is a critical layer to slow the introduction and spread of COVID-19. This strategy is consistent with the current phase of the pandemic and more efficiently protects the health of Americans.

Variants of the SARS-CoV-2 virus continue to emerge in countries around the world, and there is evidence of increased transmissibility of some of these variants.; With the US already in surge status, the testing requirement for air passengers will help slow the spread of the virus as we work to vaccinate the American public.

Before departure to the United States, a required test, combined with the CDC recommendations to get tested again 3-5 days after arrival and stay home for 7 days post-travel, will help slow the spread of COVID-19 within US communities from travel-related infections. Pre-departure testing with results known and acted upon before travel begins will help identify infected travelers before they board airplanes.

This order was signed by the CDC Director on January 12, 2021 and will become effective on January 26, 2021.
