Does Delta Require A Covid Test To Fly

United Bets Big On Travel Rebound With Record Jet Order

Delta airlines requires negative Covid-19 tests for passengers traveling from U.K. to N.Y.C.

New York The proposal to require domestic airline passengers to prove they have tested negative for Covid-19 is a “horrible idea,” according to Delta Air Lines CEO Ed Bastian.

Recommendations For People Who Are Not Fully Vaccinated

If you are not fully vaccinated and must travel, take the following steps to protect yourself and others from COVID-19:

  • Before you travel:
  • Get tested with a viral test 1-3 days before your trip.
  • While you are traveling:
  • Wearing a mask over your nose and mouth is required on planes, buses, trains, and other forms of public transportation traveling into, within, or out of the United States and while indoors at U.S. transportation hubs such as airports and stations. Travelers are not required to wear a mask in outdoor areas of a conveyance . CDC recommends that travelers who are not fully vaccinated continue to wear a mask and maintain physical distance when traveling.
  • Avoid crowds and stay at least 6 feet/2 meters from anyone who is not traveling with you.
  • Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer .
  • After you travel:
  • Get tested with a viral test 3-5 days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine for a full 7 days after travel.
  • Even if you test negative, stay home and self-quarantine for the full 7 days.
  • If your test is positive, isolate yourself to protect others from getting infected.
  • If you dont get tested, stay home and self-quarantine for 10 days after travel.
  • Avoid being around people who are at increased risk for severe illness for 14 days, whether you get tested or not.
  • Self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms.
  • Follow all state and local recommendations or requirements.
  • Transition Period If You Don’t Qualify As Fully Vaccinated

From October 30 through November 29, 2021, there will be a short transition period when travellers who dont qualify as fully vaccinated will be able to travel if they can show a valid COVID-19 molecular test taken within 72 hours of travel.

Delay travel until you are fully vaccinated. If you are not fully vaccinated and must travel, follow CDCs recommendations for people who are not fully vaccinated.

People who are fully vaccinated with an FDA-authorized vaccine or a vaccine authorized for emergency use by the World Health Organization can travel safely within the United States.

CDC will update these recommendations as more people are vaccinated, as rates of COVID-19 change, and as additional scientific evidence becomes available. This guidance applies to travel within the United States and U.S. territories.

Spirit Airlines CEO Ted Christie told CNBC that the carrier is urging all passengers and employees to get Covid shots and use facial coverings, despite the low-cost carrier having no plans to implement vaccine requirements.

Back in January, United CEO Scott Kirby said the carrier was considering a Covid vaccine mandate for the entire company’s workforce. The airline has so far not mandated the vaccine for all employees.

Two of the three Covid vaccines currently being offered in the U.S., two-shot regimens from Pfizer and Moderna, were cleared for emergency use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in late December. Those two companies have applied for full approval. Johnson & Johnson‘s one-shot Covid vaccine received emergency use authorization in February, but J& J has not sought full approval yet.

International Air Travel Recovery Faces Omicron Turbulence

The CEO of Delta Air Lines blasted the Biden administration on Tuesday for considering a proposal to require a negative coronavirus test for all domestic travelers, calling it a horrible idea that would fail to keep passengers safe and hamstring an already struggling industry.

It will not keep domestic flyers safer,CEO Ed Bastian said on CNN Business, asserting that airplanes have high-quality air filters that constantly refresh the air every few minutes to reduce the chance of transmitting the virus.

Travel domestically in the air transportation system is the safest form of transportation. I think we all know that. Incidents of spread aboard any of our planes is absolutely minimal. In fact, very, very few documented cases globally, not just domestically, he said.

Bastian went on to say that an operation to require vaccinations would pull much-needed resources away from testing for sick people.

I think itd be a logistical nightmare and would set the transportation, not just the transportation and travel industry back, but the whole hospitality sector, the hotels, it would set us back at least probably another year in the recovery, he said.

I think itd be a horrible idea for a lot of reasons, Bastian said. Were carrying as a US industry over a million people a day on average and that number is starting to grow again, which we like to see.

He said the requirement would discourage people from traveling again and have long-term consequences.

What Is The Coronavirus Situation In Germany

Last week, Chancellor Angela Merkel and the country’s 16 state leaders agreed to extend the country’s lockdown into April, but quickly reversed a decision to implement a 5-day hard lockdown over Easter.

Germany is currently battling a third wave of infections driven primarily by the highly-contagious B117 coronavirus variant that was first discovered in Britain.

On Tuesday, the seven-day incidence rate of new coronavirus infections continued to rise, up to 135 new infections per 100,000 residents. Officials agreed to implement stricter lockdown measures in areas where the rate surpasses the critical benchmark of 100, although implementation has been inconsistent.

Correction: A previous version of this article stated that tests must be taken no earlier than 48 hours before departure. It is 48 hours before arrival in Germany. We regret the error.

    Returning To The United States

Fortunately, the U.S. does accept rapid antigen tests for your return trip, which usually provide results within 15 minutes, and are relatively easy to come by. If you’re staying at a major hotel chain, I suggest you start there. Many of them, especially those in popular tourist destinations, have arrangements for rapid testing for their guests.

Or, you can purchase a rapid self-test like the Ellume Covid-19 Home Test. With this test, you schedule a video appointment and take the test from your home or hotel. The results are validated via video and you receive them within 15 minutes.

This test meets CDC requirements and can be used for re-entering the U.S. The only downside is that this type of test is more likely to report a false-positive, meaning you may want to consider packing two of them.

The U.S. requires the test be taken during the three calendar days preceding the date of your flight . This means that if your originating flight for your trip back to the United States leaves on Friday, you need a negative test result taken Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
