Does Rite Aid Do Rapid Covid Testing

Check To See If You Can Get A Rapid Pcr Test

Rite Aid expands COVID-19 testing

Though PCR tests generally take around 72 hours for results, some urgent care facilities have introduced rapid PCR tests, where you can receive your results as fast as 30 minutes. That said, if youre looking for a faster way to get a PCR test, it may cost you.

Some rapid PCR testing options include:

Testimonials About The Free Covid

Of course, even though I am a travel expert who regularly appears on CBC, the National Post, Reuters, and countless other media outlets, there will always be people who see scams everywhere and dont believe us! Thats life.

So in addition to using this tip myself and confirming that it works, here are some testimonials I took from the comments.

Rachael saved hundreds of dollars thanks to free COVID-19 tests in the USA.

Saving US$600 like Jacob is not bad either.

Vaishni confirms it works even in super-expensive Hawaii.

Kavita did it in Florida, which is the top destination for Canadians.

Simone also reiterates our tip to book in advance.

Enas confirms free COVID-19 tests work too.

Lindi used the Walgreens free PCR test instead, and that worked too.

Peter used the free NAAT in Florida.

Heather actually got here free COVID-19 tests with Curative.

Amandas in-laws did the free NAAT COVID-19 test in New Hampshire, a state accessible to many with the land border now reopened.

Another Peter also used the NAAT and had no issues with his free COVID-19 tests.

Kendall wonders why some people pay for tests in the US when its free, and its a good question.

Leon also took advantage of the free COVID-19 test for a trip to beautiful DC.

Finally, Susan confirmed with Health Canada AND the CBSA but please do not call them for this, its much simpler to look at their website which clearly states that NAATs are acceptable as I showed you above.

People Who Arent Vaccinated Face Extra Testing And Hurdles

As the delta variant continues to spread in the U.S., more cities are following in Europes footsteps and testing out proof of vaccination mandates for certain activities. Some spots in L.A. are requiring proof of vaccination to dine indoors, and New York City was the first U.S. city to establish a vaccine mandate.

Unvaccinated New Yorkers can no longer participate in many indoor activities including indoor dining, indoor fitness and indoor entertainment. The order went into effect on Aug. 17 for everyone 12 and older.

And now that one COVID-19 vaccine is FDA approved, some nationwide businesses are mandating vaccines and even penalizing employees who dont get it.

Delta Air Lines, for instance, will impose a $200 monthly surcharge on employees who do not receive the COVID-19 vaccine. The surcharge will apply to any unvaccinated employee who uses Deltas employer-provided health plan.

The company is also ordering unvaccinated workers to submit to weekly COVID-19 testing. Unvaccinated employees will also be ineligible for pay protection if they contract the illness beginning Sept. 30. Amtrak also requires all employees to be fully vaccinated by Nov. 1, and those who dont will be required to submit a negative COVID-19 test result weekly.

Overview Of The Free Covid

In short:

  • Free COVID-19 tests are widely available in the United States
  • They are available in almost every state
  • Residency or citizenship is not required
  • Insurance is not required
  • You dont need to be Canadian either, its really for everyone
  • Ive done it myself 3 times

But there are important things to know about free COVID-19 tests in the USA:

  • Canada accepts PCRs but also NAATs, which provide results much quicker
  • Results from the free PCRs take longer to receive
  • You must book online in advance
  • Choose an appointment close to the 72-hr limit and book as early as possible
  • Appointments often open just days before
  • This works since April but double check here before your trip

And I have a step-by-step below, but here are the essentials to know about the process:

  • Simply use any US address if they ask for one
  • Use your Canadian drivers license if they ask for ID
  • Our favorite option is Walgreens for free NAATs with same-day results

As I said, I have been to the United States 3 times in the last few months myself and I got tested completely free for my return to Canada all 3 times . Including on November 7.

It was very easy.

Dozens and dozens of Canadians who follow our tips have done it too and saved hundreds of dollars. Check out the last section for many testimonials I took from the comments if you want to see many travelers who thank us for saving them hundreds of dollars after using this tip.

So please stop paying $200 for tests in the US in order to return to Canada!

Me, taking Rite Aids do-it-yourself COVID-19 test.

As I reflect upon my time here at Philly Mag, I realize Im the guy who volunteers to do weird stuff. Sometimes painful stuff. Sometimes gross stuff. And sometimes just stuff that seems like it would be fun but then doesnt work out so well.

When they needed somebody to try a high colonic at some Society Hill spa, yeah, I did it. Who has an intense fear of dentistry and wants to go to a dentist to try to get over it? Yep. Me. Root canal and all. Stinging laser tattoo removal? Sure.

And while other writers were staying in luxe lodges for a Hudson River Valley travel package, I thought it would be just awesome to take my wife and two kids to a tiny house in the woods in that area. It was kinda fun but then the camping toilet exploded, sending two days of biological contents spraying all over the cabins bathroom. We cut the trip short.

So it was basically my manifest destiny to raise my hand when Rite Aid announced a do-it-yourself COVID-19 test.

Rite Aid came out with its do-it-yourself COVID-19 test in April. This is a viral test, meaning it will tell you if you have the virus. It is not an antibody test. And when Rite Aid first made the announcement, the test was only for those with COVID-19 symptoms. You had to fill out an online questionnaire to determine your eligibility. And I had no symptoms, so I wasnt eligible.

I still had to complete an online questionnaire.

Are you 65 years old or older?Nope.

What Is A Rapid Diagnostic Test

Man received false positive from Rite Aid COVID-19 test

The key difference between rapid tests and standard tests is how long they take to process results. As the name suggests, rapid tests can produce fast results. Standard coronavirus tests typically use more complex, time-consuming methods and bulky equipment. Rapid tests are often simpler, allowing them to process samples faster. The fastest test currently available, ID NOW by Abbott, can detect the virus in 13 minutes or less.

Rapid tests can also be done at point-of-care, without requiring an outside laboratory for processing samples. With standard tests, samples are sent to a lab. This can cause bottlenecks, potentially delaying results for days, if not weeks, as demand increases. Rapid tests often use a portable device to test samples, so the entire process can be completed at the same location.

To summarize, rapid tests can be done on-site. They are generally simpler or less time-consuming. And they produce results in under an hour.

Next, well cover the types of rapid testing that have been developed so far.

In U.S. trials, the Johnson & Johnson vaccine was 72% effective in preventing symptomatic COVID-19 after one dose. The Pfizer vaccine is 95% effective and the Moderna vaccine is 94.1% effective at preventing symptomatic COVID-19 after two doses.

What’s The Difference Between An Additional Dose And A Booster

The authorized additional dose of the COVID-19 vaccine is meant to specifically reach people who may not have a sufficient or expected immune response to the vaccine. Offering an additional dose can help strengthen the immune response to help ward off both infection and severity of infection.

Boosters on the other hand, are meant to address decreasing or waning vaccine effectiveness over time for people who had an expected immune response. Most studies continue to show that the COVID-19 vaccines are effective against COVID-19, particularly when it comes to severe infection and hospitalization. Learn more.

The CDC has updated its guidance to allow the co-administration of vaccines with the COVID-19 vaccine. Experience with other vaccines has shown that the way our bodies develop an immune response after getting vaccinated and the possible side effects of vaccines are generally the same when given alone or with other vaccines. How Accurate Are Rapid Diagnostic Tests

You may be wondering if rapid diagnostic tests are as accurate as standard tests. Do they compromise accuracy for speed, for example?

When rapid molecular tests first became available, concerns rose that they were missing a significant number of positive cases. Of particular concern was the rapid ID NOW test by Abbott. People who may have had the virus were testing negative. This is called a false negative result. According to manufacturer studies, there is now more real-world data suggesting that the test is reliable. The ID NOW test has been able to identify 93% of positive samples and over 98% of negative samples when compared to standard molecular test results, Abbott says.

Even so, standard molecular tests are the gold standard, but they are not 100% accurate, either.

Rapid antigen tests are very specific for the coronavirus. A positive result likely means that you are infected. However, rapid antigen tests are not as sensitive as other tests, so there is a higher chance of a false negative result.

In general, rapid tests seem to be more accurate when you test earlier in the infection. The best time to be tested is when the amount of virus in your body is at its highest. A higher viral load increases the chances that the test will pick up on the presence of the virus in a sample. For example, the rapid ID NOW test has been shown in manufacturer studies to be more accurate when used within 7 days of when symptoms start.
