Scheduled online Friday. We had appointments at 4:15, 4:30 and 4:45. It was done thru the drive thru and by the time we were at the window it was 4:20. What Do I Need To Do/know About The Johnson & Johnsons Janssen Covid

The FDA and the CDC are confident that the vaccine is safe and effective at preventing COVID-19. At this time, the available data suggests that the chance of developing a rare blood disorder thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome is very low, and the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks.

For women between the ages of 18 and 49, this adverse event is rare, occurring at a rate of about 7 per 1 million vaccinated women. For women 50 years and older and men of all ages, this adverse event is even more rare. Women younger than 50 should be aware that other COVID-19 vaccines are available where this risk has not been seen.

Patients who receive the Janssen vaccine should monitor for severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain or shortness of breath for 2 weeks after administration.

If experiencing symptoms, patients should contact their healthcare provider.

The Janssen, Pfizer-BioNTech, and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are offered in select CVS locations. Find locations and schedule your appointment.

Uncovering and explaining how our digital world is changing and changing us.

Update, September 20: Several days after this story published, and after denying that its original page set-up was insecure, Walgreens added an authentication screen to its Covid-19 test confirmation pages, making it more difficult for bad actors to access the information. With the new authentication screen, anyone who wants to access the test confirmation pages must now enter the patients date of birth first. Multiple ad trackers are still present on the patient pages.

Alejandro Ruiz, a consultant with Interstitial Technology PBC who first discovered the potential data leak, told Recode that he didnt think Walgreens fix was good enough. Ruiz said he would prefer a more secure verification method, like a password, and noted that the application programming interface , which allows Walgreens and its advertisers to communicate with each other and exchange data, remains active.

Walgreens told Recode that it added an additional layer to the site out of an abundance of caution, adding that it was not aware of any credible evidence of unauthorized access to patient data.

Protecting personal information of our customers and patients is always one of our highest priorities, which we take very seriously, the company said.

The data exposure potentially affects millions of people who used or continue to use Walgreens Covid-19 testing services over the course of the pandemic.

Prioritizing Who Gets The Initial Doses

In mid-December, Walgreens began administering the vaccine to approximately three million residents and staff in 35,000 long-term care facilities. Since that time, Shah estimates that the pharmacy chain has now delivered more than 4.5 million doses. The chain is currently receiving about 480,000 doses each week and administering shots in 27 jurisdictions.

Although vaccine manufacturers have been boosting their production, sufficient doses are not yet available for everyone.

There isnt enough vaccine the way that we have for flu where theres enough for the entire country, says Shah. With the COVID-19 vaccine, theres still inventory that continues to build, and every week it gets better and better, which is fantastic.

Because supplies are still catching up with demand, states have had to set up systems to prioritize who gets the first batches rolling off production lines.

PerCDC recommendations, initial supplies have gone to healthcare personnel and long-term care facility residents . That was followed by frontline essential workers and individuals over the age of 75.

Most recently there has been an indication where teachers, school, staff members, and educators are able to get the vaccine, says Shah.

Shah urges educators, school staff members, and all interested individuals to visit the Walgreens website to check their eligibility and sign up for an appointment if they qualify.

Going through the Walgreens questionnaire before I can actually book the test, it asks if I travelled internationally in the past 14 days. Could there be a different outcome if I say yes versus no?

  • Andrew D’Amours23 Sep 2021Reply

I said no since I was in the US for less than 14 days both times, and they okayed my test. If you have been in the US for more than 14 days, maybe they would not recommend getting tested since your risk factor might be lower based on those very debatable criteria.

    Coronavirus Racial Disparity Revealed; COVID

Andrea Mosterman, an associate professor of history at the University of New Orleans, was already dismayed that she had to wait three days to secure a Covid-19 test at a Walgreens near her home after being in contact with someone who had tested positive.

But on Sunday, when she showed up at the pharmacy drive-thru, she was told the store had run out of test kits and none was available anywhere in the city. I told them I had a reservation, but they said it didnt matter, she said.

On Monday, eager to know her status and get back to work, she waited at an urgent care center for four hours to get tested. Within minutes, she was told she had tested negative.

While relieved, Mosterman said the process upset her. It was incredibly irresponsible for them to promise me a test and have me wait three days to have the test and then to say, We dont have it. That was so frustrating, she said.

As the nation confronts its latest and worsening surge of Covid cases, consumers are again facing delays getting tested, many turning to social media to complain. The problem appears mostly in the South and Midwest, where infections driven by the virus delta variant are proliferating the fastest.

About 100,000 new cases of Covid are being reported each day this week, up from about 12,000 a day in early July. Testing is up 41 percent in the past two weeks, to about 760,000 tests a day, according to The New York Times analysis of federal data.

    Ensuring Access For All

The Department of Homeland Security stated in February that it is a moral and public health imperative to ensure that all individuals residing in the United States have access to the vaccine. Toward that end, the federal government is providing the vaccine free of charge.

Cost is sometimes a barrier to individuals getting a vaccine, says Shah.

The CDC;points to many interrelated factors that hinder vaccine access for communities of color, including a distrust in the medical system and a lack of access to transportation. As part of Walgreens commitment to drive health equity, the company has launched the Vaccine Equity Initiative to increase access to vaccinations, provide education to address vaccine hesitancy, and create partnerships that best meet the needs of all communities.

Walgreens understands that more needs to be done to reduce health disparities and ensure equitable access to COVID vaccines, said Carlos Cubia, the senior vice president and chief global diversity officer for;Walgreens Boots Alliance, in a press release. Our pharmacy team members reflect the communities we serve and have a deep understanding of the barriers to care among those most impacted by the pandemic. This initiative, combined with our community presence, allows us to create tailored solutions that can help to improve the health of communities.

As part of this effort, Shah spotlights three pillars of the companys endeavors to help underserved communities get vaccinated.
