Walgreens Vaccine Slots Fill Up For Vermonters

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Walgreens has fixed its website after a technical problem on Thursday prevented Vermonters 65 and older from registering for COVID vaccinations.

While the problem was fixed on Thursday, as of Friday morning, the Walgreens website says there arent any more available appointments, at least for the next two days.

Walgreens told Vermont officials it would be ready to start registering Vermonters in that age group on Thursday. But as Vermonters started trying to register, both Walgreens website and phone system said people must be 70 or older to make an appointment. The company has since fixed the issue with its website, and those 65+ can now register for an appointment. The phone system has not yet been fixed. Once it is properly updated, Vermonters will be able to call 1-800-WALGREENS. You need an appointment for vaccinations at Walgreens, there are no walk-ins.

ORLANDO, Fla. Appointments to receive a third shot of the COVID-19 vaccine for those who are immunocompromised are now available at CVS and Walgreens pharmacies.

Walgreens How To Sign Up For The Covid Vaccine What You Need To Know

While the COVID-19 vaccine isnt currently widely available across Illinois, Walgreens is encouraging those who are eligible to search and sign up for appointments at its more than 500 vaccination sites across the state.

Currently, vaccinations in Illinois, including at Walgreens locations, are available by appointment only.

More than 3.2 million residents are eligible for vaccinations under the states Phase 1B, which includes people age 65 years and older as well as frontline essential workers.

Beginning on Feb. 25, Illinois will expand eligibility and open up vaccinations to people with a high-risk medical condition or comorbidity. The list includes those with cancer, diabetes, obesity, women who are pregnant, and those with several other conditions.

During Vaccinated State, an hour-long NBC 5 special in which COVID-19 experts answered questions and addressed concerns Thursday, a Walgreens senior vice president explained how the companys online signup process works.

It will actually look around the geography where you put in and tell you what is available and when, said Rick Gates, senior vice president of pharmacy and healthcare. Vaccine availability is really the driver right now, and I think everybody is wanting to understand when were going to have more.

While Gates said residents can visit their local Walgreens and talk with their pharmacist to learn about availability, he believes its easier to use the companys app or website.

How Protected Am I Post

All three vaccines reduce the risk of COVID-19 infections and are highly effective at preventing severe illness and death from the disease. But no vaccine is 100 percent effective and breakthrough infections, while rare, have been reported. According to data from the Kaiser Family Foundation, breakthrough infections affect only 0.01 to 0.29 percent of fully vaccinated people in states that have reported data. The CDC is tracking the tiny percentage of fully vaccinated people in the United States who have been hospitalized with or died from COVID-19.

What to Expect at your COVID-19 Vaccine Appointment at Walgreens

Walgreens pharmacy. Local pharmacies will offer the COVID-19 vaccine. Wednesday, February 3, 2021Patti Sapone | NJ Advance Media

Walgreens has been added to the list of pharmacies offering COVID-19 vaccines to eligible Oregonians.

Walgreens joins Albertsons, Safeway, Costco and Health Mart as the Oregon pharmacies that receive weekly vaccine doses through the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program.

Elderly Oregonians who have managed to schedule appointments at the pharmacies have reported positive experiences after facing struggles trying to schedule appointments through the states vaccination scheduling website at mass vaccination sites like the Oregon Convention Center or Portland International Airport.

However, securing an appointment at a pharmacy remains difficult. The participating pharmacies across the state are each receiving only about 100 doses per week.

Walgreens said its Oregon pharmacies received 8,190 initial COVID-19 vaccine doses this week, but declined to provide a list of pharmacies that had received doses or say how many doses each store received.

Eligible Oregonians interested in trying to schedule an appointment can visit Walgreens.com/ScheduleVaccine or call 1-800-Walgreens. However, there were no available appointments within 25 miles of Portland on Thursday morning.

Customers can also sign up to receive alerts from Walgreens about available vaccine appointments.

What Should You Do If You Lose Your Covid

So youre fully vaccinated and you have your COVID-19 vaccination card as proof, something a growing number of venues, not to mention employers, are mandating. But what if you misplace the card and cant find it? Or you accidentally leave it in your pocket and it goes through the wash?

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention suggests taking a photo of your vaccination card and keeping a copy on your phone.

If you didnt do that, dont panic. There are ways you can get a replacement.

If you lose your COVID-19 vaccination card, the CDC recommends that you contact your vaccination provider directly.

Lets say you received your shots at Walgreens. If you lose your paper card, you should contact your local Walgreens pharmacy.

Walgreens keeps records of all vaccinations at our pharmacies, a Walgreens corporate spokesperson said in an email. If a patient loses their physical dose card, we recommend contacting their local Walgreens pharmacy to provide them with a new one.

For people who received shots at CVS, there are several options, according to Matt Blanchette, a spokesman for CVS Pharmacy.

First, a record of the vaccine received and date administered is available for patients to access and download in the CVS Pharmacy app or online at cvs.com, Blanchette said in an email.

Patients will need to create an account to access the record online or in the CVS app, he said.

How Are Pharmacies Preparing To Administer Covid

The federal government is working with 21 national pharmacy partners and independent pharmacy networks to get shots into arms. Some retail pharmacy chains post We have a limited supply! or Schedule your COVID-19 vaccination today notices front and center on their websites. Others make vaccine information harder to find. Many are discouraging phone calls to local pharmacies asking to schedule vaccine appointments at this time. Heres a look at what some retail pharmacy and grocery chains are doing.

CVS Pharmacy

As part of the federal program, CVS pharmacy is administering the COVID-19 vaccine in about half the states and Puerto Rico to high-priority groups ahead of a broader rollout. The company is offering targeted vaccination clinics for eligible groups in select stores in:

Cancellations Lead To Criticism

Paul Feiner, supervisor of the town of Greenburgh in Westchester County, publicly posted emails from his constituents who reached out to his office to raise concern after removing their names.

“This is ridiculous,” Feiner wrote on the town’s website. “Those under 65 who have medical problems deserve the vaccine just like those who are over 65 and are healthier. I am reaching out to the Governor’s office – hoping that the state will direct all pharmacies to offer vaccines to everyone eligible to receive them.”

Phyllis Sauler said she booked an appointment for her son, who is younger than 65 but has an eligible underlying health condition, at the Walgreens in Dobbs Ferry, Westchester County. She said she received a confirmation email from the drug-store chain before later receiving an email cancelling the appointment, which led her to call for an explanation.

“The person I spoke with at Walgreens told me that she was just told that they were just informed they could only give vaccines to those 65 and older,” Sauler wrote in an email.

Cuomo’s administration first limited vaccine providers to specific populations in mid-January, not long after expanding the eligibility rules to include those over the age of 65.

Under the state rules, pharmacies are limited to those over the age of 65. Hospitals have to prioritize health care workers, then they can vaccinate residents of facilities for the developmentally disabled, then they can vaccinate those over the age of 65.

ALBANY, N.Y. CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens said they will be offering the COVID-19 vaccine to residents who qualify to receive it as soon as it becomes available. In New York groups in 1a and 1b are eligible to get vaccinated.

Walgreens has been providing vaccine to skilled nursing facilities. CVS is providing them at limited locations, while Rite Aid said they will most likely have vaccine available during phase 2 and phase 3 of distribution.

Walgreens said they expect the first doses to be administered at skilled nursing facilities by January 25. They said all 9,000 of their locations will have access to the vaccine and that appointments will be able to be made on their app or online.

Since receiving our first allotments of vaccines in late December, Walgreens has remained on track in vaccinating our most vulnerable populations, and we are steadfast in our commitment to accelerating access to COVID-19 vaccines as we receive additional guidance from state governments and jurisdictions, said President, John Standley.

CVS is currently taking appointments for the vaccine at two New York locations, one in Long Island and one in Erie County. They said they plan on offering it at all 10,000 of their locations.

Customers will be able to make an appointment using their app and will be prompted to make an appointment for their second dose at the same time. The company expects the vaccine to be available to the general public sometime in March or April.
