When You Are Fully Vaccinated And Traveling Internationally
International travelers need to pay close attention to the situation at their international destinations before traveling due to the spread of new variants and because the burden of COVID-19 varies globally.
- Fully vaccinated travelers do not need to get tested before leaving the United States unless required by their destination.
- Fully vaccinated air travelers coming to the United States from abroad, including U.S. citizens, are still required to have a negative SARS-CoV-2 viral test result or documentation of recovery from COVID-19 before they board a flight to the United States.
- International travelers arriving in the United States are still recommended to get a SARS-CoV-2 viral test 3-5 days after travel regardless of vaccination status.
- Fully vaccinated travelers do not need to self-quarantine in the United States following international travel.

How Long For Cvs Covid Test Results
For anyone who got their Pre-Travel test through CVS pharmacy, how long did it take for your results to be returned? Website says 2-3 days or longer depending on lab schedules. Obviously a full 3 days put you at risk to be within the 72 hour requirement. Thanks!

Given the huge spikes in Minnesota–I would consider spending the money for tests from Vault. I wouldn’t count on CVS getting tests back in time, in your state.
Depends on where they send them to. You really wont know. If its Mayo, my last test that went there was collected on a Monday around 2pm, and resulted about 6pm on Thursday. If they send it to LabCorp, perhaps longer.
Testing volume is growing a bit faster than capacity. Alina Health just brought their lab online for testing, but youve got to be an Alina employee or family of. Got my result from this Thursday resulted Friday evening. Very limited capability for that kind of turn around, though.
If you don’t have results in hand when you get screened after arrival. Plan on 3 to 4 day qurantine while they process your results once you finally get them. You’re not free to go even if negative until they finish processing. We have a family member waiting now, even though negative results came day after he got here. Im glad they’re taking time to make sure tests are valid. No sympothy from me. Its the new normal if were gonna keep numbers low.

Chances Of A Rapid Test Giving A False Negative
A examined the results of 64 test accuracy studies evaluating commercially produced rapid antigen or molecular tests.
The researchers found that the accuracy of the tests varied considerably. Heres a look at their findings.
Accuracy for people with COVID-19 symptoms
For people with symptoms of COVID-19, the tests correctly gave a positive result an average of 72 percent of the time. The 95 percent confidence intervals were 63.7 to 79 percent, meaning that the researchers were 95 percent confident that the average fell between these two values.
Accuracy for people without COVID-19 symptoms
The researchers found that people without COVID-19 symptoms correctly tested positive in 58.1 percent of rapid tests. The 95 percent confidence intervals were 40.2 to 74.1 percent.
Accuracy during the first week of symptoms versus the second
Rapid tests more accurately provided a positive COVID-19 result when administered during the first week of symptoms. The researchers found that rapid tests correctly identified COVID-19 in an average of 78.3 percent of cases during the first week.
In the second week, the average dropped to 51 percent.
Differences between brands
The researchers found a large range of accuracies between manufacturers of the tests.
Coris Bioconcept scored the poorest and correctly provided a positive COVID-19 result in only 34.1 percent of cases. SD Biosensor STANDARD Q had the highest score and correctly identified a positive COVID-19 result in 88.1 percent of people.

Long Delays For Covid
MECHANICSBURG, Pa. For months, increasing Covid-19 testing was a major hurdle across the country and here in Pennsylvania.
With that testing now up to speed, some are experiencing delays in getting results back.
Took a total of nine days to get the results, said Ed Gallagher, from Carlisle. Was totally in the dark on it.
Nine days of waitingnine days without any answers. The wait was agonizing, Gallagher said.
He was tested Saturday, June 27 at a CVS on the Carlisle Pike in Mechanicsburg, after being advised by his doctor to do so following potential exposure from a relative he was told to expect results in two to four days but that didnt happen.
On Monday, July 6 those negative results came in, without any explanation about the delay.
At one point I called CVS and said you know, its been over a week now, whats the story?’ Gallagher asked. go for testing and dont get results, yeah it wears on you on a day-to-day basis.
Weve heard similar complaints from midstaters so we asked about their wait time.
On Facebook, Tabby said: My husband got tested last Monday, just got the results today . It was ridiculous how long it took.
Jennifer posted that, for her, it took six days for results. I was told results in 2-4 days.
Many though, arent seeing delays at all. Korinne commented about the ease of the drive-thru testing at CVS, saying I waited about two days for results and received them on a portal.

The Story Behind Ellumes Test
Parsons explained that the seeds for Ellumes home COVID test were planted well over a decade ago, during a swine flu breakout in 2009. The company saw a need for rapid tests that didnt need to go through a lab. Then, technology took a giant leap forward with smartphones and Ellume worked to integrate their diagnostic tech with smart devices. The result was a patented detection method that uses unique fluorescent nanoparticles and a sophisticated reader system.
Still, Parsons and his team didnt want to just bolt on an app that takes a photo of the test strip or something. What we did was go further than that. We created our instruments so it was fully integrated, he said. And the place that we got to was with a Bluetooth-connected, fully digital analyzer.;
While the analyzer looks unassuming, There’s an awful lot of electronics that went into making it simple Theres a whole bunch of firmware that is on the disposable cartridge.
But the most important aspect of the home test was making it extremely easy for anyone to use. That meant coming up with the right kind of instructions to minimize human error. Other rapid tests rely heavily on consumers using them properly, which can result in false negative results.;
And despite the high 96% accuracy, Ellume still recommends anybody who gets a positive result to consult their doctor.;
How Accurate Are The Tests
Data submitted to the FDA for all of the four tests shows high accuracy rates above 80 percent but testing experts noted that their effectiveness in the real world will likely be lower due to user error and other factors.
“When manufacturers are preparing data to submit to FDA, they are conducting studies under very specific, highly controlled conditions that optimize the performance of the test, said Kelly Wroblewski, director of infectious disease programs at the Association of Public Health Laboratories.
The Ellume, Abbott BinaxNOW;and Quidel QuickVue tests use the same antigen technology as many of the rapid tests given by health care providers. Antigen tests are less accurate than the gold standard method used by labs called polymerase chain reaction, or PCR.
“The danger is that you’ll have people use these tests to say I can safely go see grandma, when they may be brewing an infection that is below the limit of detection.”
Studies show antigen tests miss many asymptomatic infections. They work best when you’re having COVID-19 symptoms, Wroblewski said. Common signs of COVID include cough, fever, fatigue, muscle aches, congestion, runny nose, loss of taste or smell, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention .
For any at-home test, if you have symptoms and you test positive, it’s very, very likely you have the virus, Pride said, and you should go into isolation and get in touch with your health care provider.
