Amount Of Third Stimulus Checks
Question: How much money will I get?
Answer: Everyone wants to know how much money they will get. You probably heard that your third stimulus check will be for $1,400 but it’s not that simple. That’s just the base amount. Your check could actually be much higher or lower.
To calculate the amount of your check, Uncle Sam will start with that $1,400 figure. If you’re married and file a joint tax return, then both you and your spouse will get $1,400 . If you have dependents, you get an additional $1,400 for of them. So, for example, a married couple with two children can get up to $5,600.
Now the bad news. Stimulus payment amounts will be phased-out for people at certain income levels. Your check will be gradually reduced to zero if you’re single with an adjusted gross income above $75,000. If you’re married and file a joint tax return, the amount of your stimulus check will drop if your AGI exceeds $150,000. If you claim the head-of-household filing status on your tax return, your payment will be reduced if your AGI tops $112,500. You won’t get any payment at all if your AGI is above $80,000 , $120,000 , or $160,000 .
Also note that the IRS, which is issuing the payments, will look at either your 2019 or 2020 tax return for your filing status, AGI, and information about your dependents. Because of this, the amount of your third stimulus check could depending on when you file your 2020 tax return.
Main Street Lending Program
On March 23, 2020, the Fed announced the Main Street Lending Program, which set up an SPV to purchase up to $600 billion in small- and medium-sized business loans. Under the plan, the Fed purchased a 95% stake of each loan, with the bank keeping 5%. To qualify, businesses needed to have either 10,000 or fewer employees or up to $2.5 billion in 2019 revenue.
On July 17, 2020, the Fed extended the program to nonprofit organizations that didnt have endowments larger than $3 billion, had either fewer than 15,000 employees or less than $5 billion in 2019 revenue, and met a number of other additional requirements. The program purchased stakes in both new loans and loan extensions.
Under the CARES Act, the Treasury Department planned to make a $75 billion equity investment in the SPV. The terms of the loans were five years, with interest deferred for one year and principal payments deferred for two years.
On Oct. 30, 2020, the Fed reduced the minimum size of the loans that the program would purchase. It continued to purchase stakes in loans until Jan. 8, 2021, and it will continue to be funded until its assets mature or are sold.

The IRS reopened its “Get My Payment” website following the passage of the American Rescue Plan, allowing people to track when they might receive their stimulus checks. The IRS created this portal last year for the $1,200 stimulus checks directed by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security, or CARES, Act.

Many people who fall into one of these categories are wondering what will happen if they do not send their stimulus checks back.
At this point in time, its unclear when or how the IRS intends to ensure that those who incorrectly received the money will send it back.

Covid Stimulus Checks Have Still Not Reached As Many As 12 Million People
Its been 217 days since Congress instructed the IRS to send $1,200 stimulus checks to every citizen below a certain income threshold. And yet, its likely as many as 12 million people including those who most need a financial boost never got the cash.
The reasons include confusion about how the complex program works, IRS missteps, technical snafus and Treasury Department policy decisions that cut out large groups of people altogether. How Much Was Each Round Of Stimulus Checks
The amount and eligibility requirements have varied for each round of payments. The most recent checks, included in the American Rescue Plan, were the largest up to $1,400 per person, plus an additional $1,400 per eligible child. That amount was larger than the first round of payments enacted under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, which allowed for a maximum of $1,200 per person, plus $500 per qualifying child, and more than double the second round of payments under the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2021, which provided up to $600 per person, plus $600 for each qualifying child.
All three rounds of payments were primarily targeted at lower- and middle-income Americans, phasing out for incomes above $75,000 for single taxpayers, above $112,500 for taxpayers filing as head of household, and above $150,000 for married couples filing jointly. However, the rate at which those payments phased out varied for each round detailed in the table below.

The Third Round Of Stimulus Checks
The most recent checks were included in the American Rescue Plan, which was enacted on March 11, 2021. Eligible individuals will receive a payment of $1,400 , plus an additional $1,400 per eligible child. However, those payments phase out quickly for incomes above $75,000 for single taxpayers, above $112,500 for taxpayers filing as head of household, and above $150,000 for married couples filing jointly. Next year at tax time, the credit will provide duplicate second helpings of money that families can collect through tax refunds.
Some lawmakers and advocates for policies that fight child poverty favor a permanent expansion of the credit, but Democrats cut a deal to keep the supersized credit for just one more year, a compromise to get the budget support they need with their thin congressional majority.

How Many Stimulus Checks Have Been Issued
The government has so far issued three rounds of stimulus checks.
The first “Economic Impact Payment” was worth up to $1,200 and given to low-income households last year.

The $19 Trillion Stimulus Law
The American Rescue Plan is the official name of that massive stimulus legislation enacted in March. It kicked the nations stimulus response into high gear.
Not only did it make the third round of payments possible. It also expanded the federal child tax credit, with Americans getting half of it this year as an advance payment. That advance will span six checks, which the IRS has started sending out monthly. All of which is to say, the 478 million figure we noted above is also a little incomplete.
It doesnt, for example, take into account the child tax credit checks that are coming once a month through December. In all, those will give millions of families as much as $1,800 this year for each eligible child. And theyll get the second half of the tax credit next year.
What If I Didn’t Get The Right Amount
Some people may get their checks quickly, yet discover the payment amount is incorrect that could be due to their dependents or changes in income.
The law provides $1,400 per adult and dependent, as long as the household income falls below the income threshold for eligibility. In the current bill, single people whose adjusted gross income was below $75,000 and married couples with income below $150,000 will receive their full payments, as well as their dependents. Payments decline for earnings above that, cutting off entirely for single people earning $80,000 and $160,000 for married couples.

Stimulus Checks Since March 2020
For some perspective into how extraordinary the federal COVID response has been, consider this. Since March of 2020, Americans have received an estimated 478 million direct cash payments from the federal government.
How we arrive at that figure is as follows. Based on data from the IRS, 160 million received a payment during the first stimulus check round, which started April 11, 2020. The Trump administration started sending out the second round of checks in December 2020. That tranche included around 147 million checks.
That takes us up to 307 million stimulus checks.
In July 2021, we learned from the IRS that another 171 million stimulus checks had been sent out. That brings us to 478 million. This batch was a result of the so-called American Rescue Plan. And it represented a total value of more than $400 billion since these payments began rolling out to Americans in batches on March 12.
Who’s Eligible For The Latest Stimulus Check
THERE is certain criteria that must be met in order to claim your third stimulus check.
You could be entitled to a payment if the following is true:
- You are not a dependent of another taxpayer
- You have a Social Security number valid for employment
Your adjusted gross income must also not exceed:
- $160,000 if married and filing a joint return
- $120,000 if filing as head of household or
- $80,000 for single applicants
The latest round of cash will start to be phased out for individual tax payers who earn $75,000 a year.
But once you hit the $80,000 annual gross income limit, you won’t be able eligible for the help at all.
Like the single-taxpayer cut off, there’s a $120,000 AGI cap on how much heads of households can earn to be eligible for the help.
A head of household is a single-taxpayer who claims a dependant.
You’ll get a reduced payment if you earn between £112,500 and $120,000 AGI. Anyone earning less will qualify for the full amount.
