The consequences for individuals are real. Mark Valentine still remembers when his brother called him to tell him he had contracted coronavirus. Valentine is a trial consultant in North Carolina. His brother Phil, 61, was a well-known conservative talk show host in Nashville, Tenn., who often expressed skepticism about vaccination.

Neither brother was vaccinated, and neither one was particularly worried about Phil’s positive result. His brother said he was trying several alternative therapies commonly promoted in conservative circles. “He said, ‘I’ve got the ivermectin, I started it this morning, and I don’t think it’s going to be a big deal,’ ” Mark Valentine recalls. “And frankly I didn’t think about it anymore.”

Phil Valentine died in August about five weeks after he announced he had tested positive for COVID-19.

Coronavirus Disease : Vaccines

There are several COVID-19 vaccines validated for use by WHO . The first mass vaccination programme started in early December 2020 and the number of vaccination doses administered is updated on a daily basis on the COVID-19 dashboard.

The WHO Emergency Use Listing process determines whether a product can be recommended for use based on all the available data on safety and efficacy and on its suitability in low- and middle-income countries. Vaccines are assessed to ensure they meet acceptable standards of quality, safety and efficacy using clinical trial data, manufacturing and quality control processes. The assessment weighs the threat posed by the emergency as well as the benefit that would accrue from the use of the product against any potential risks.

In line with their national regulations and legislation, countries have the autonomy to issue emergency use authorizations for any health product. Domestic emergency use authorizations are issued at the discretion of countries and not subject to WHO approval.

As of 26 November 2021, the following vaccines have obtained EUL:

If you live in a country where vaccines are available to more people beyond these priority groups, get vaccinated as soon as it is your turn.

Us Has Already Seen More Covid Deaths In 2021 Than 2020 Before Vaccines Were Available As Experts Again Warn Pandemic Is Not Over

A memorial in Los Angeles comprises thousands of white flags honoring lives lost to COVID-19 in the county.

The U.S. has already suffered more deaths from the coronavirus-borne illness COVID-19 in 2021 than in 2020, even though vaccines that prevent serious illness and death have been widely available since April, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

With more than a month to go to close out the year, the CDC has recorded 386,233 COVID deaths in 2021 through Tuesday, more than the 385,343 counted in 2020, as the New York Times reported.

The paper cited experts as saying the cause was not just persistently low vaccine uptake but also the relaxation of safety measures such as wearing face masks and avoiding indoor gatherings, with many people wrongly assuming that vaccines alone had effectively ended the crisis.

That has also led to a fresh rise in cases, hospitalizations and deaths in recent weeks after all three metrics had fallen from their early September peaks. New cases are averaging 94,335 a day, according to a New York Times tracker, up 25% from two weeks ago. Hospitalizations are up 9% from two weeks ago to an average of 50,942 and deaths continue to average more than 1,100 a day, meaning the U.S. is seeing casualties equal to those suffered in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, every three days.

Why Did So Many Die After Receiving The Vaccine

Coronavirus: India records more than 24,000 COVID

In Hungary, more than 4 million people have already received at least the first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. The vaccine helps to keep the possible infections mild and not fatal. However, according to the table published by the Hungarian government last week, many Hungarians died of coronavirus after receiving both doses.

If someone gets vaccinated against the coronavirus, it does not mean that they can not get the disease, just that the disease will most likely not be fatal. To the best of our knowledge, Western vaccines such as Pfizer and Moderna are almost 100% effective in protecting against coronavirus mortality. According to U.S. data, out of the 87 million people who received both doses of the vaccine, only 88 people died.

In Hungary, 273 people out of 1.4 million people died.

This vast difference is hard to explain and is worth pursuing possible reasons. One might question the accuracy of the data as there are errors in the table, which were highlighted by, among others, Katalin Karikó, Vice President of BioNTech. Researchers at believe that it would be important to know the background of the data in the table, as well as the age of the deceased, their underlying diseases, and after how long they died after being vaccinated.

The vaccine may lose its protection if its quality deteriorates.

How Ivermectin Became The New Focus Of The Anti

Complacency around the risks of contracting COVID-19 certainly seemed to be a major reason why the Valentine brothers avoided vaccination. While not conspiracy theorists, they were staunch Trump supporters. The arrival of coronavirus just ahead of the presidential election of 2020 seemed like “the most fortuitous pandemic in the history of the world” for the Democratic Party, recalls Mark.

Despite the media coverage, Phil Valentine didn’t believe COVID-19 was serious as long as you were healthy: “He said, ‘The likelihood of me getting it is low. In the unlikely event that I do get it, the likelihood that I will survive it is 99-plus %,’ ” Mark Valentine recalls.

Vaccine researcher Peter Hotez is deeply troubled by the current state of affairs. A winter surge in COVID-19 cases is brewing, and the newly discovered omicron variant has the potential to make things far worse.

How Do Death Rates From Covid

To understand how the pandemic is evolving, its crucial to know how death rates from COVID-19 are affected by vaccination status. The death rate is a key metric that can accurately show us how effective vaccines are against severe forms of the disease. This may change over time when there are changes in the prevalence of COVID-19, and because of factors such as waning immunity, new strains of the virus, and the use of boosters.

On this page, we explain why it is essential to look at death rates by vaccination status rather than the absolute number of deaths among vaccinated and unvaccinated people.

We also visualize this mortality data for the United States, England, Switzerland, and Chile.

Ideally we would produce a global dataset that compiles this data for countries around the world, but we do not have the capacity to do this in our team. As a minimum, we list country-specific sources where you can find similar data for other countries, and we describe how an ideal dataset would be formatted.

How Many More Will We Lose

Experts agree that the SARS-CoV-2 virus is unlikely to ever be eradicated, meaning it will continue to cause some harm for the foreseeable future. How much depends on how many people get vaccinated, or get a booster shot how long immunity lasts how virulent future versions of the virus are and what level of death people are willing to tolerate before accepting restrictions again.

The right balance is not no death. The right balance is less death than what were having now, Dowdy said, citing public tolerance of flu deaths.

Colorado isnt close to bringing COVID-19 deaths down to seasonal flu levels, though. In 2019, the state lost 468 people to flu or pneumonia across the multi-month season roughly two weeks worth of deaths from COVID-19 this November.

The state isnt likely to vaccinate everyone who remains susceptible any time soon. While uptake has increased any time a new variant is announced and when hospitals are filling up, theres a natural plateauing with any new vaccine or treatment after the most-eager people have received it, France said.

How Many Have Died From Covid Vaccines

Between mid-December 2020, when the first COVID-19 shots were rolled out, and April 23, 2021, at which point between 95 million and 100 million Americans had received their COVID-19 shots, there were 3,544 reported deaths following COVID vaccination.2

Thats 182 more deaths than cited by Carlson. As of April 23, 2021, VAERS had also received 12,618 reports of serious adverse events. In total, 118,902 adverse event reports had been filed. If, like Carlson estimates, about 30 people per day are dying from the shots, these numbers will grow by the hundreds each week.

Carlson also cites data from an investigation by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which found that VAERS catches a mere 1% of vaccine injuries,3,4 primarily because its a passive system and reports are filed voluntarily.

Many Americans dont even know that the system exists, or that they can file a report, and most doctors wont file reports when injuries are brought to their attention because the medical system doesnt reward such fastidiousness. At most, 10% of vaccine side effects are ever reported to VAERS, according to a 2005 study in the BMJ.5

What this means is that side effects may actually be 10 times or even 100 times higher than reported. We could, in reality, be looking at anywhere from 126,000 to 1.2 million serious side effects, and anywhere from 35,440 to 354,400 vaccine-related deaths.

Unvaccinated Texans 40 Times As Likely To Die Of Covid As Those Fully Vaccinated In 2021 Study Says

Follow this story and more bysigning up for national breaking news email alerts.

A vast majority of Texans who have died of covid-19 since the beginning of the year were unvaccinated, according to a grim new Texas health department report released Monday.

The report from the Texas Department of State Health Services examined data from Jan. 15 to Oct. 1 and found that unvaccinated people were much more likely to get infected and die of the coronavirus than those who got their shots.

Of the nearly 29,000 covid-linked fatalities in Texas during that period, more than 85 percent were of unvaccinated individuals. Nearly 7 percent of the deaths were among partially vaccinated people, while nearly 8 percent were fully vaccinated.

The figures highlight just how much more at risk the unvaccinated population has been this year: In all age groups, the states unvaccinated were 40 times more likely to die than fully vaccinated people. The study also found that the unvaccinated in all age groups were 45 times more likely to have a coronavirus infection than fully vaccinated people. It also looked closely at data from September and underlined the impact of the highly contagious delta variant, which fueled a surge in Texas, as it did in much of the country.

Nearly 54 percent of the states population is fully vaccinated, trailing the national vaccination rate of 58.4 percent.

Us Vaers Data From Dec 14 2020 To Dec 10 2021 For 12

The most recent deaths involve a 13-year-old girl from Texas who died 31 days after receiving her COVID vaccine. According to her VAERS report, the girl received her first dose of Pfizer on Aug. 1.

Two weeks later, she complained of vague upper back pain and was diagnosed with a rare soft tissue cancer located on her heart despite having no previous medical history. Parents requested a VAERS report be filed in case her cancer was related to the vaccine. Her cancer and heart condition rapidly and progressively worsened and she died Dec 1.

  • 61 reports of anaphylaxis among 12- to 17-year-olds where the reaction was life-threatening, required treatment or resulted in death with 96% of cases attributed to Pfizers vaccine.
  • 571 reports of myocarditis and pericarditis with 561 cases attributed to Pfizers vaccine.
  • 143 reports of blood clotting disorders, with all cases attributed to Pfizer.

Reporting Even Unrelated Deaths

I feel hope: COVID

The Food and Drug Administration requires health care providers to report any serious adverse event that happens after a COVID-19 vaccination whether or not the provider thinks there is any link. The CDC says, “Health care providers are required to report to VAERS the following adverse events after COVID-19 vaccinationregardless if the reporter thinks the vaccine caused the AE.” AE stands for adverse event and includes death.

That means that if a vaccinated person drowns, gets in a car crash or is struck by lightning, their death must be reported to VAERS as an adverse event. Since we’ve vaccinated over 223 million people in the United States, many deaths will occur coincidentally after vaccination.

As of Nov. 2, people have reported to VAERS 14,506 deaths that occurred sometime after COVID-19 vaccination. Doctors at the CDC review each reported death, looking at death certificates, autopsy and medical records. Additional CDC vaccine safety monitoring systems such as the National Healthcare Safety Network, Vaccine Safety Datalink, Clinical Immununization Safety Assessment Project and FDA’s vaccine safety reporting systems are then used to provide more rigorous scientific investigation of potential adverse events. The true number of deaths currently attributed to COVID-19 vaccines in detailed scientific investigation is quite small.

Thrombosis With Thrombocytopenia Syndrome

Thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome is a rare event involving serious blood clots with a low blood platelet count. TTS is triggered by the immune systems response to the AstraZeneca vaccine and is different from other clotting conditions. The TGA and other medicines regulators around the world continue to monitor and investigate this issue.

Earlier this week, the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation released a joint statement with the Thrombosis and Haemostasis Society of Australia and New Zealand . This update notes that the risk of developing TTS after receiving the AstraZeneca vaccine does not appear to be higher in people who have previously had a clot such as deep vein thrombosis or pulmonary embolism. The update also states that there appears to be no increased risk in those with a history of coronary heart disease, stroke or thrombocytopenia or those receiving anticoagulation therapy. ATAGI recommends that these people can receive the AstraZeneca vaccine.

However, ATAGI recommends that the Comirnaty vaccine be used in people with:

  • a history of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis or idiopathic splanchnic venous thrombosis

  • a history of heparin-induced thrombocytopenia

  • anti-phospholipid syndrome with thrombosis

  • a serious reaction to a previous dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine such as anaphylaxis or TTS.

Why Most People Who Now Die With Covid In England Have Had A Vaccination

Dont think of this as a bad sign, its exactly whats expected from an effective but imperfect jab

AMailOnline headline on 13June read: Study shows 29% of the 42 people who have died after catching the new strain had BOTH vaccinations. In Public Health Englands technical briefing on 25 June, that figure had risen to 43% , with the majority having received at least one dose.

It could sound worrying that the majority of people dying in England with the now-dominant Delta variant have been vaccinated. Does this mean the vaccines are ineffective? Far from it, its what we would expect from an effective but imperfect vaccine, a risk profile that varies hugely by age and the way the vaccines have been rolled out.

Consider the hypothetical world where absolutely everyone had received a less than perfect vaccine. Although the death rate would be low, everyone who died would have been fully vaccinated.

The vaccines are not perfect. PHE estimates two-dose effectiveness against hospital admission with the Delta infections at around 94%. We can perhaps assume there is at least 95% protection against Covid-19 death, which means the lethal risk is reduced to less than a twentieth of its usual value.

Coverage and effectiveness are important numbers for assessing vaccination programmes. It is better to look at cool analysis by analysts, rather than hot takes on social and other media.
