What Share Of The Population Has Been Fully Vaccinated Against Covid
The following chart shows the share of the total population that has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. This represents the share that have received all doses prescribed by the vaccination protocol. If a person receives the first dose of a 2-dose vaccine, this metric stays the same. If they receive the second dose, the metric goes up by 1.
This data is only available for countries which report the breakdown of doses administered by first and second doses.
How Do We Know When Someone Has Died From Covid
The simple answer is we don’t know for sure, though it’s likely to be far higher than reported estimates.
Unlike the ‘manner of death’, which distinguishes natural deaths like illness from suicide or homicide, a ‘cause of death‘ ascribes a catalogued illness or chain of events to a person’s loss of life.
In many jurisdictions around the world, a cause of death is determined by a pathology expert, who assigns a code from the International Classification of Diseases to allow for easier reporting to international authorities.
This might be straightforward in some cases where a patient with a positive blood result for SARS-CoV-2 has few pre-existing conditions.
In such cases a pathology official would need to determine if the patient could have lived longer, were it not for the additional health impact of their coronavirus infection.
Cdc Health Care Fraud Detection Whistleblower Says Vaers Wildly Underreports Vaccine Injuries Deaths
At the very least, there are five times more deaths from the jabs than are being reported. In all likelihood, the actual figure is much higher.
The Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System currently logs more than half a million cases of severe side effects from the shots, including stroke, heart failure, blood clots, brain disorders, convulsions, seizures, inflammation of the brain and spinal cord, life-threatening allergic reactions, autoimmune disease, arthritis, miscarriage, infertility, rapid-onset muscle weakness, deafness, blindness, narcolepsy and cataplexy.
That half a million figure was from back in August, by the way. The latest numbers, once they get released, are likely to be much higher. And again, this is only a fraction of the true overall number of incidents that never even make it into VAERS.
A health care fraud detection expert from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently came forward with a sworn testimony about how the VAERS database, while extremely useful, is under-reported by a conservative factor of at least 5.
Part of the problem is that deaths are only attributed to the vaccines if they occur outside of a two-week window. Those that occur within that window are not logged because the CDC does not consider a person vaccinated until 14 days have passed post-injection.
Adverse events from drugs and vaccines are common, but underreported, says Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Inc.

Children Less Likely To Die
One death out of 7,888 cases in children and teenagers means that less than 0.013 per cent of young COVID-19 patients in Canada have died a far smaller proportion than in Canadian COVID-19 patients as a whole, among whom the death rate is 8.1 per cent.
Most major countries have higher death rates for children with COVID-19 than Canada does, but even so, there is a clear overall pattern.
More than four per cent of COVID-19 cases in the United States have been fatal, but only about 0.2 per cent of patients under the age of 17 have died. In the United Kingdom, those figures stand closer to 15 per cent and 0.15 per cent.
A study of 100 children who contracted the novel coronavirus in Italy found that none of them died, even though more than 14 per cent of all known COVID-19 cases in the country have been fatal. A comprehensive study from Europe found a COVID-19 mortality rate in children of less than one per cent. In China, only one of the first 2,135 pediatric patients to have contracted the virus later died. Researchers from Ontario concluded that it is “rare” for children to die after contracting COVID-19 in high- or middle-income countries.
In many of the cases where children have died after contracting COVID-19, Freedman said, there is little evidence that it was actually the virus that killed them.
“They often are high-risk children who have significant co-morbidities that place them at risk for significant outcomes with any virus,” he said.
Estimating Global Excess Mortality
On 30 January 2020 COVID-19 was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern with an official death toll of 171. By 31 December 2020, this figure stood at 1 813188. Yet preliminary estimates suggest the total number of global deaths attributable to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 is at least 3 million, representing 1.2 million more deaths than officially reported.
With the latest COVID-19 deaths reported to WHO now exceeding 3.3 million, based on the excess mortality estimates produced for 2020, we are likely facing a significant undercount of total deaths directly and indirectly attributed to COVID-19.
COVID-19 deaths are a key indicator to track the evolution of the pandemic. However, many countries still lack functioning civil registration and vital statistics systems with the capacity to provide accurate, complete and timely data on births, deaths and causes of death. A recent assessment of health information systems capacity in 133 countries found that the percentage of registered deaths ranged from 98% in the European region to only 10% in the African region.
Countries also use different processes to test and report COVID-19 deaths, making comparisons difficult. To overcome these challenges, many countries have turned to excess mortality as a more accurate measure of the true impact of the pandemic.

Which Countries Are Better At Testing
The test positivity rate measures the percentage of tests that return as positive. It can tell us two things: the overall size of the outbreak in each country, and how comprehensively different testing systems are coping with the number of new cases. The higher the number, the larger the outbreak the lower this number, the more confident we can be that the testing system is catching most of the cases.
A good analogy is fishing: if you are constantly filling your net when you bring it up, you know it is likely there are far more fish out there that you are missing. But if you cast your net wide and only catch a couple of fish, you know there probably arent many others out there.
How Many People Have Died From Covid
The most important metric is the number of people that have died from Coronavirus. Different countries have different ways of measuring deaths some, like the UK, only include deaths in their daily figures when someone has tested positive from the virus and died within 28 days. Other countries dont have a time-limitation in their reported deaths, and some, such as Belgium, include deaths where coronavirus was suspected.
One way of comparing different countries death tolls from Covid-19 is to look at the number of people who have died above and beyond what we would expect in a usual year. This measure is called excess deaths and while it may include people that have died from causes other than direct Covid-19, it offers a chance to compare different countries using the same metric.
There are also disparities between the number of cases recorded in each country in large part due to differences in testing. The graph below is therefore best for comparing the direction countries are heading in, rather than the differences between them.
You can view the figures raw, or compared to population, in order to take into account the different sizes of each country.

How Many People Are In Hospital With Coronavirus
The European Centre for Disease Control publishes daily hospital occupancy rates for a selection of European countries. We have added in several other countries around the world from a variety of different sources where we can find them.
The number of people hospitalised with the disease is a good way of tracking the epidemic over time, as it doesnt rely as much on testing and the way of measuring has generally remained constant over the pandemic.
It is also key to easing restrictions, as many countries will only do so once they are sure their health systems will not be overwhelmed.

Innovation Through Partnership: World Health Data Hub
WHO’s new World Health Data Hub will leverage digital solutions and technology partners to provide a more streamlined experience, integrating existing systems from across the three levels of the Organization to improve data collection, reporting and use. This includes the use of disaggregated data to more precisely address the inequalities that have been highlighted by the pandemic.
As key technology partners, Microsoft and Avanade are working closely with WHO to deliver this ambitious, end-to-end solution with a shared commitment to establish health data as a public good.
COVID-19 global excess mortality is one of the first use cases to demonstrate the power of the collaborative research environment offered by the Hub, with this work continuing as methods are refined and additional data is attained at the regional and country level.
Currently, WHO data engineers are leveraging state-of-the-art data pipelining services including Azure Data Factory to ingest and harmonize data from various sources into a modern Data Lake project repository. After data is ingested, WHO data scientists and Technical Advisory Group members are then able to build statistical and machine learning models together in R and Python in a cloud-based collaborative research environment. This significant upgrade in tooling enables faster and easier research collaboration with partners allowing researchers to work on the most up to date versions of data and code in a shared programming environment.

Global Comparison: Where Are Confirmed Deaths Increasing Most Rapidly
Simply looking at the cumulative total or daily number of confirmed deaths does not allow us to understand or compare the speed at which these figures are rising.
The table here shows how long it has taken for the number of confirmed deaths to double in each country for which we have data. The table also shows both the cumulative total and daily new number of confirmed deaths, and how those numbers have changed over the last 14 days.

Why Most People Who Now Die With Covid In England Have Had A Vaccination
Dont think of this as a bad sign, its exactly whats expected from an effective but imperfect jab
AMailOnline headline on 13June read: Study shows 29% of the 42 people who have died after catching the new strain had BOTH vaccinations. In Public Health Englands technical briefing on 25 June, that figure had risen to 43% , with the majority having received at least one dose.
It could sound worrying that the majority of people dying in England with the now-dominant Delta variant have been vaccinated. Does this mean the vaccines are ineffective? Far from it, its what we would expect from an effective but imperfect vaccine, a risk profile that varies hugely by age and the way the vaccines have been rolled out.
Consider the hypothetical world where absolutely everyone had received a less than perfect vaccine. Although the death rate would be low, everyone who died would have been fully vaccinated.
The vaccines are not perfect. PHE estimates two-dose effectiveness against hospital admission with the Delta infections at around 94%. We can perhaps assume there is at least 95% protection against Covid-19 death, which means the lethal risk is reduced to less than a twentieth of its usual value.
Coverage and effectiveness are important numbers for assessing vaccination programmes. It is better to look at cool analysis by analysts, rather than hot takes on social and other media.

Where Are The New Variants Spreading
One of the largest concerns currently is how the virus is mutating. Throughout the pandemic, the virus has mutated a number of times, creating new strains. Most of these mutations are harmless, doing nothing to change the seriousness of the virus. However some concerning variants have arisen in the UK, South Africa and Brazil raising worries of increased transmissibility or reduced vaccine effectiveness.
What Share Of The Population Has Been Partly Or Fully Vaccinated Against Covid
The following charts show the breakdown of vaccinations by those that have been partly or fully vaccinated. A person is considered partly vaccinated if they have received only one dose of a 2-dose vaccine protocol. A person is considered fully vaccinated if they have received a single-dose vaccine or both doses of a two-dose vaccine.
This data is only available for countries which report the breakdown of doses administered by first and second doses.

COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access
COVAX is a worldwide initiative aimed at equitable access to COVID-19 vaccines directed by Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations , and the World Health Organization . COVAX coordinates international resources to enable low-to-middle-income countries equitable access to COVID-19 tests, therapies, and vaccines.
How Would We Determine An Accurate Number Of Covid
One method for estimating a more accurate total mortality for COVID-19 is to compare the total number of deaths for all causes during the pandemic with relevant statistics from a similar period in previous years.
For example, by the end of July 2020, within a sample of 32 countries and 4 major cities, roughly 413,000 deaths were officially attributed to COVID-19.
Statistics on death rates for those regions, however, found this period contained nearly 600,000 more deaths than typical for months corresponding to the pandemic. This implys nearly 200,000 deaths weren’t being accounted for by the reports.
How many of these might be ‘missed’ COVID-19 deaths is impossible to say. The pandemic has had other knock-on effects that impact health, such as interruptions to income and public services, reduced exercise, and reduced hospital admissions for conditions such as heart attacks. On the other hand, social distancing measures and improved hygiene has reduced the spread of other deadly illnesses.
Finding a balance in the numbers will take time. It’s possible we might never know exactly how many people would be alive if not for the global spread of SARS-CoV-2. In all likelihood, we are underestimating the number of people no longer alive as a consequence of the pandemic.
The real death toll is likely to be far higher than the official one.

How Are Excess Mortality Estimates Calculated And What Are The Main Findings
For countries with limited capacity to conduct real-time comparative analysis of observed and expected deaths, health estimates are an important in-filling mechanism. They can be calculated using a variety of statistical methods, from a minimalist approach to expert and statistical data synthesis. Regardless of the method, WHO estimates are always conducted in accordance with its Constitution and data principles and in close consultation with Member States, other UN agencies, and expert advisory groups to ensure a transparent and consensual process.
In collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs , and in accordance with the WHO Regulations for Scientific and Advisory Groups, WHO convened a Technical Advisory Group on COVID-19 Mortality Assessment to develop harmonized methods for excess mortality and help determine the total number of direct and indirect deaths attributable to COVID-19. The COVID TAG is comprised of leading demographers, epidemiologists, data and social scientists and statisticians from a range of backgrounds and geographies.
For 2020, excess mortality attributable to COVID-19 is defined as the difference between the total observed deaths for the year and those expected in the absence of COVID-19. The measure cannot be determined for all countries due to data gaps within some countries.
