How To Get Covid Tested

Who Needs A Covid Test

How To Get A Coronavirus Test Kit
Getting A COVID Test Is VITAL If:
  • You think you might have the virus and need to go places
  • You need to show a negative PCR or Antigen COVID test result to enter a specific country when its time to leave Mexico .

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is expanding the requirement for a negative COVID-19 test to all air passengers entering the United States. Testing before and after travel is a critical layer to slow the introduction and spread of COVID-19. This strategy is consistent with the current phase of the pandemic and more efficiently protects the health of Americans.

When To Time Your Test

With such a short testing window, the requirement doesnt leave travelers much wiggle room to wait for results. As polymerase chain reaction tests often take around two days to process, an approved rapid test is your best bet for getting results back within a day of your trip to the United States.

Dont wait too long to order those self-tests at-home kits are in high demand as the holidays approach and can be hard to come by.

Create An Account For Arrival Testing

Depending on where you enter, there are different testing providers.

You can create an account in advance to save time at the border.

Use the same email address you used for your ArriveCAN account.

You may be required to get tested before exiting the airport. To speed you through testing at the airport, we encourage you to register in advance with the testing provider:

How To Arrange Affordable Tests

Coronavirus testing particularly last-minute options can give travelers sticker shock. Often the most expensive options, like testing facilities at airports, bank on desperation to justify the exorbitant prices.

The best way to avoid blowing your travel budget on tests is to plan them in advance. Compare testing prices at your hotel some include testing in their room rate with local pharmacies and urgent care facilities. Or order an approved self-test early enough to get it delivered before your departure.

Some airlines, like American and easyJet, have offered discounts on self-tests for passengers flying between certain destinations. Check your airlines website ahead of travel to see what they have on offer.

Tests To Find Out If Youve Been Infected By Covid

Antibody tests use a sample of your blood to check for antibodies. Your body makes these after it’s exposed to the virus.

A positive serology test means that, at some point, you were infected by the virus. But it can’t tell how long ago you were infected.

Serology tests aren’t used to diagnose COVID-19 in early stages of infection, since they don’t detect the virus itself.

    Serology tests can help:

    • estimate how many people have had COVID-19
    • better understand how much the virus has been spreading in the community
    • determine which public health measures need to be in place

On April 23, 2020, Canada launched the COVID-19 Immunity Task Force to lead a Canada-wide unified effort to perform serological tests. To determine the groups of Canadians who will receive serology testing as a first priority, the task force is coordinating with:

    • provinces and territories
    • research groups
