Can Eligible Populations Receive Their Booster At Cvs
Moderna and Pfizer-BioNTech booster shots for eligible individuals 18+ are available at select CVS Pharmacy and MinuteClinic locations.
In addition, as of Tuesday, January 4, individuals ages 12-17 years are eligible to receive the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 booster shot at CVS Pharmacy locations currently carrying this vaccine. A parent or legal guardian must complete the online registration on CVS.com for minors up to age 17. Teens 16 and older do not need to be accompanied by an adult to their vaccination appointment, unless required by local or state law.

Phase 2a Vaccine Distribution
Governor Mike DeWine announced the individuals who are included in the first part of Phase 2 of Ohio’s vaccination plan, which began on March 4, 2021. Phase 2A opened with Ohioans ages 60 and older. This group includes approximately 695,000 eligible Ohioans.

Phase 2A opened with vaccinations based on age, beginning with age 60 and older, because the risk of more severe reactions and outcomes from COVID-19 increase with age. Eligible individuals can receive a vaccine from the provider of their choice.

The FDA and the CDC are confident that the vaccine is safe and effective at preventing COVID-19. At this time, the available data suggests that the chance of developing a rare blood disorder thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome is very low, and the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks.
For women between the ages of 18 and 49, this adverse event is rare, occurring at a rate of about 7 per 1 million vaccinated women. For women 50 years and older and men of all ages, this adverse event is even more rare. Women younger than 50 should be aware that other COVID-19 vaccines are available where this risk has not been seen.
Patients who receive the Janssen vaccine should monitor for severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain or shortness of breath for 2 weeks after administration.

How To Safely Store Your Vaccine Card
It’s a good idea to store a picture of your vaccine card safely on your phone.
First, take a picture of the front and back of the card.
If you have an iPhone, snap a picture of your card, go to the Share button on Photos, then select Hide. This will conceal your image in the Hidden album, which can be found by tapping Albums, then scrolling to Utilities.
On Google Pixel or Samsung Galaxy smartphones, there’s an option to create a locked folder where you can store the picture of your COVID-19 vaccine card.
It’s not recommended to laminate a vaccine card, in case you need to receive additional booster shots. Wednesday, the Biden administration unveiled plans to offer booster shots to American adults who received a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine beginning Sept. 20.

Which Vaccines Are Being Offered As A Booster
As of November 19, the Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines boosters are authorized for eligible individuals age 18 and above, following FDA authorization, and under guidelines set by ACIP and the CDC.
On December 9, the FDA and CDC authorized the administration of a booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for patients ages 16-17 years, six months after receiving the second dose of their primary COVID-19 vaccination series.
Additionally, individuals who are 18 years and older and received the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine may receive a single booster dose of Johnson & Johnson , Moderna, or Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine at least two months after receiving their primary vaccination.

Phase 1c Vaccine Distribution
Governor Mike DeWine has announced the individuals who are included in Phase 1C of Ohio’s vaccination plan, which will go into effect on March 4, 2021. Phase 1C includes approximately 246,000 eligible Ohioans with certain occupations and with certain medical conditions not addressed in previous phases.
This phase will focus on:
- Individuals who have additional medical conditions that may increase their risk of severe illness and death from COVID-19. The new qualifying conditions are not already covered through Ohios age-based approach to vaccine eligibility.
- Ohioans who work in certain occupations, including child care services, funeral services, and law enforcement and correction services.
- Eligible individuals can receive a vaccine from the provider of their choice. Individuals may be asked to confirm during the registration or screening process that they are eligible to receive the vaccine based on a qualifying medical condition or based on their occupation.

A: Children should eat and drink plenty of water before getting a vaccination. This is especially important for children and teens because fainting after any vaccine is more common among adolescents, and often the result of high anxiety or dehydration. Children should get plenty of rest the night before an appointment if possible. On the day of the appointment, they should wear a short-sleeve or sleeveless shirt to allow easy access to the upper arm. If its a colder day, layer with a cardigan or jacket that is easy to remove quickly.

What Type Of Vaccine Will I Receive
The vaccine type available varies by provider. All are being shipped to Lake County providers at this time. LCGHD clinics will administer whichever vaccine is available on the day of your appointment, and advise you of if and when you need to return for a second dose. Some clinics will offer a choice of vaccines. As a reminder, all currently authorized vaccinations are highly effective at preventing severe illness, hospitalization, and death from COVID-19.

What Should I Bring To My Vaccination Or Booster Appointment
Some vaccination sites ask for proof of identity or eligibility. Bring a drivers license or other state-issued ID that shows your name, age and state residency, along with your health insurance card, if you have one. You wont be charged for the initial vaccine series, or a booster shot, but the vaccine provider may bill your insurer a fee for administering the vaccine. After your first shot, bring your vaccine card for subsequent shots.

Vaccinations For Children And Teens
Children ages 5 and older are now eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine, which is the only COVID-19 vaccine currently authorized for use for people ages 5-17. Currently, no COVID-19 vaccines have been authorized for use in children under the age of 5.
There are many locations at which youth can be vaccinated across the state, including pediatricians offices, vaccine clinics, local health departments, hospitals, community health centers, and more.
Phase 2d Vaccine Distribution
COVID-19 vaccinations opened to people 16 and older beginning Monday, March 29, 2021.
With parent or legal guardian consent, individuals ages 16 and 17 are eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine, which is the only COVID-19 vaccine currently authorized for use under age 18. Children ages 16 and 17 who are not emancipated must have parental or legal guardian consent for any vaccine. A parent or legal guardian generally should accompany the minor to receive the vaccine, unless the administration of the vaccine occurs in a physicians office, school-based or school-associated clinic setting or similar setting. Parents/legal guardians will be asked to provide digital consent if scheduling an appointment through the VMS. They also may be asked to sign a consent form on site.

The Us Has Wasted Over 82 Million Covid Vaccine Doses
Pharmacies, states, U.S. territories and federal agencies discarded 82.1 million Covid vaccine doses from December 2020 through mid-May just over 11 percent of the doses the federal government distributed, according to data the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shared with NBC News. Thats an increase from the 65 million doses the CDC told the Associated Press had been wasted as of late February.
Two retail pharmacy chains, CVS and Walmart, were responsible for over a quarter of the doses thrown away in the United States in that time period, in part due to the sheer volume of vaccine they handled.
Five other pharmacies or dialysis centers Health Mart, DaVita, Rite Aid, Publix and Costco wasted fewer overall doses, but a higher share: more than a quarter of the vaccine doses they received, well above the national average. Two states also discarded more than a quarter of their doses: Oklahoma, which tossed 28 percent of the nearly 4 million doses it received, and Alaska, which threw away almost 27 percent of its 1 million doses, according to the CDC data.

Fda Advisers Back Novavax Covid Shots As 4th Us Option
American adults who havent yet gotten vaccinated against COVID-19 may soon get another choice, as advisers to the Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday backed a more traditional type of shot.
Next, the FDA must decide whether to authorize the protein vaccine made by latecomer Novavax as the nations fourth coronavirus shot for adults. Its made with more conventional technology than todays dominant Pfizer and Moderna shots and the lesser-used Johnson & Johnson option.
N ovavax shots are already available in Australia, Canada, parts of Europe and multiple other countries, either for initial vaccinations or as mix-and-match boosters. But U.S. clearance is a key hurdle for the Maryland-based company.
FDAs vaccine chief Dr. Peter Marks said another choice in the U.S. may entice at least some vaccine holdouts whatever their reason to consider rolling up their sleeves.
We do have a problem with vaccine uptake that is very serious in the United States, Marks said. Anything we can do to get people more comfortable to accept these potentially life-saving products is something that we feel we are compelled to do.
A final FDA decision isnt expected immediately, as the agency finishes combing through the data.
The FDA advisory panel voted that the benefits of two primary Novavax doses outweigh its risks but they had a lot of questions about the shots role at this point in the pandemic.

Who Is Currently Eligible For Covid
All adults and those ages 12-17 are eligible to receive COVID-19 vaccination, according to the Ohio COVID-19 Vaccination Program criteria.
Ages 5-11 are also eligible to receive the pediatric Pfizer vaccine.
Please consult with your doctor to see if COVID-19 vaccinations are right for you.
- Pediatric Vaccine clinics for ages 5-11 will be by appointment only due to limited supply. Parents may make appointments by phone or Armorvax. For the safety and comfort of patients in this age group, we will not be administering vaccine for those 12+ during pediatric clinics. Anyone over 11 and any walk-ins during a pediatric only clinic will be turned away. Parents will be given a reminder for second dose at the vaccine appointment. A parent or legal guardian MUST be present with the child to bring them to the appointment and sign consent. Parents are asked to bring their photo ID and insurance cards if able.
Note that 12-17 year-olds may only receive Pfizer vaccine, as it is the only vaccine authorized for this age group. Minors, ages 12-17 MUST have parental consent to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine and MUST be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian to receive the vaccine. No one younger than 12 years old may receive the vaccine at this time. Please bring completed consent form and proof of birth date to the appointment.
