How To Sign Up For Covid Vaccine In Ky

Should I Still Wear A Mask After Getting Vaccinated

Q& A: How to sign up for COVID-19 vaccine in Kentucky, Indiana

It takes two weeks to build immunity after the single-dose shot and after the second dose of the two-dose shots.Due to the continuing circulation of the Delta variant, the CDC is recommending fully vaccinated people in areas with high and substantial COVID-19 transmission wear a mask in indoor settings, including schools. The CDC also recommends continuing to wear a mask on planes, buses and trains and other shared transport while traveling into, within or out of the United States. This guide, originally published Jan. 13, was updated on Sept. 28 with new information about booster shots.

All three vaccines reduce the risk of COVID-19 infections and are highly effective at preventing severe illness and death from the disease. But no vaccine is 100 percent effective and breakthrough infections, while rare, have been reported. According to data from the Kaiser Family Foundation, breakthrough infections affect only0.01 to 0.29 percent of fully vaccinated people in states that have reported data. The CDC is tracking the tiny percentage of fully vaccinated people in the United States who have been hospitalized with or died from COVID-19.

Which Vaccines Require A Second Shot

The COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna require two doses. If you get one of these, youll need a follow-up dose to be effectively immunized. The recommended second-shot date is three weeks after a first dose of the Pfizer vaccine and four weeks for Modernas, but the CDC says an interval of up to six weeks is acceptable. You should get a card from your provider saying when and where to return for the second dose.Johnson & Johnson’s vaccine requires just one shot. A Food and Drug Administration warning says the vaccine has been connected with rare, severe blood clots in a small number of recipients, especially in women age 50 years and younger, and an increased risk of developing Guillain-Barr√© syndrome, a rare neurological disorder.

What Kind Of Side Effects Should People Expect From The Covid

According to the CDC, you may have some side effects following the COVID-19 vaccine, which are normal signs that your body is building protection. Common side effects include pain and swelling on the arm where you got the shot, and fever, chills, tiredness and headache throughout the rest of your body.

New Guidelines For Immunocompromised People

The CDC recommends an additional dose of COVID-19 vaccine for moderately to severely immunocompromised people. This includes people who have completed a vaccination series with Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna and have:

  • Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
  • Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
  • Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency
  • Advanced or untreated HIV infection
  • Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response

Your additional dose must be administered at least 28 days after your vaccination series has been completed. For eligible immunocompromised people, the CDC recommends the same vaccine as previous doses and recipients must be ages 12+ for Pfizer-BioNTech or ages 18+ for Moderna. Johnson & Johnson patients are not eligible for an additional dose at this time.

People should talk to their healthcare provider about their medical condition, and whether getting an additional dose is appropriate for them. If you are eligible, walk in or schedule an appointment to receive an additional dose of your recommended vaccine.

How Will The Vaccine Be Distributed And Administered

Initially, pharmacy chains such as Walgreens and CVS, and others, such as hospitals and clinics, will be the main providers of vaccine because of the complex storage and reporting requirements for the vaccine.

For example, some vaccines must be stored at below-freezing temperatures of minus-114 degrees Fahrenheit. Furthermore, current plans call for vaccines to be shipped in vials containing up to 1,000 doses, which means they must be administered on a mass scale.

Eventually, people should be able to get vaccines at their doctor’s office or local clinic, Stack said.

How Are Vaccinations Working In Nursing Homes And Long

How can I sign-up for the COVID-19 vaccine in Louisville?

Most residents and staff of Kentuckys long-term care facilities were offered first and second doses through a federal program that provided free on-site vaccinations in late 2020 and early 2021. The program has ended, but the federal government continues to allocate COVID-19 vaccines and now boosters, for those who received Pfizer shots to pharmacies that are partnered with long-term care facilities to provide vaccinations, mainly on-site. Facilities that dont have a pharmacy partner are encouraged to work with local or state health departments or the federal government, if need be to provide vaccinations. The federal government has ordered all nursing home staff to be vaccinated in order to receive Medicare and Medicaid dollars. AARP is mandatory COVID-19 vaccinations for nursing home residents and staff.

Kentucky Governor Stresses Boosters In Fight Against Covid

FRANKFORT, Ky. Persuading people to roll up their sleeves again to get a COVID-19 booster will play a crucial role in ultimately defeating the coronavirus, Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear said Thursday.

Boosters are now the most critical thing, aside from getting more people vaccinated, the Democratic governor said at a news conference.

But the Bluegrass State will have some ground to make up in its vaccination numbers.

Some of the COVID-19 vaccine data for Kentucky was counted twice in the federal vaccine database, Beshear said. An estimated 431,100 total vaccine doses will be removed from the federal database for Kentucky, including about 252,500 first doses, he said. As a result, the percentage of Kentuckians who have received at least a first dose will drop to 56% or 57%, down from 62%.

The recalculation hurts a little bit, Beshear said. But he added: “If were going to get everybody vaccinated, protect everybody, we really have to have the most accurate count of who is and who isnt.

The governor continued to stress the importance of booster shots, saying: It will keep your immunity further up, and it will help us defeat COVID once and for all.

Beshear sounded upbeat about the prospects of getting people to return for booster shots.

Beshear predicted that booster shots eventually will become widespread.

Theres a chance that in two to three weeks, we could be at a really good place,” he said.

What Should I Do With My Vaccine Card

You should get a small white card at your vaccination appointment with your name, birth date, name of the vaccine you received and the date it was administered. If you receive the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, bring your card when you get your second shot. You may need your vaccine card to schedule a third vaccine dose, for certain immunocompromised people, or a booster shot. You may also need it for certain kinds of travel or other activities, so keep it in a safe place. You can take a photo of it with your smartphone for your own records. Experts say that posting a photo of your card to social media could make you vulnerable to identity theft. If youve lost your vaccine card, call the site where you were vaccinated to request a new one or a copy of your vaccination record. You can also contact your state health department to request a replacement card or a copy of your record.

What Is The Governor Saying About It

Kentucky’s vaccination lottery is not an original idea, by any means.

But the governor said state who have seen similar vaccine incentives — notably Ohio — have seen an uptick in vaccinations.

This is a lifesaving and now possibly life-changing opportunity, said Gov. Beshear. You can get your shot of hope and then enter for a shot at $1 million or a shot at one of 15 full scholarships both protecting you from this deadly virus and possibly transforming your future.

This initiative underscores two critical points in our states recovery: higher education matters and so does health and safety, said Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education President Aaron Thompson, who joined Gov. Beshear in the Capitol Rotunda for the announcement. If we want to take advantage of the pent up demand in our economy, now is the time to get vaccinated and trained up for the next generation of jobs. I want to thank Gov. Beshear for advancing both of these priorities.

You may already be eligible for a Moderna vaccine booster now. Here’s what we know.

    Moderna boosters are here.

If you’ve been waiting to get the Moderna booster shot to further protect yourself against COVID-19, a Moderna booster now has the green light. A booster dose of the vaccine was authorized after a debate that culminated in conclusions by the FDA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The authorization came with guidelines for who is and isn’t eligible. We’ll walk you through who meets the guidelines for receiving the Moderna booster shot, and when and what the deal is with mixing and matching vaccines from the different drug-makers.

Authorization for the Moderna, Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson booster shots — along with Pfizer vaccines for kids — comes at a time when the deadly and contagious delta variant keeps its hold on the US, causing hospitals in some states to once again buckle. With cases, hospitalizations and deaths beginning to plateau, epidemiologists worry about another wave of COVID-19 infections as cold weather drives people indoors and as the annual flu season begins to kick in, socking immune systems.
