What Airlines Require Covid Vaccine

Am I Required To Wear A Mask In The Airport And On The Plane

Delta Airlines will not require coronavirus vaccine

Yes. Federal law requires each person to wear a mask at all times in the airport and throughout the flight, including during boarding and deplaning. Refusing to wear a mask is a violation of federal law and may result in denial of boarding, removal from the aircraft, and/or penalties under federal law. A properly worn mask completely covers the nose and mouth, is secured to the head, and fits snugly against the side of the face. Please click here for more information on this mask policy.

Fact Sheet: Biden Administration Releases Additional Detail For Implementing A Safer More Stringent International Air Travel System

  • Starting on November 8, non-citizen, non-immigrant air travelers to the United States will be required to be fully vaccinated and to provide proof of vaccination status prior to boarding an airplane to fly to the U.S.

Proof of Vaccination:

  • For foreign nationals, proof of vaccination will be required with very limited exceptions to board the plane.
  • Passengers will need to show their vaccination status, and the airlines will need to:
  • Match the name and date of birth to confirm the passenger is the same person reflected on the proof of vaccination
  • Determine that the record was issued by an official source in the country where the vaccine was given
  • Review the essential information for determining if the passenger meets CDCs definition for fully vaccinated such as vaccine product, number of vaccine doses received, date of administration, site of vaccination.
  • The Biden Administration will work closely with the airlines to ensure that these new requirements are implemented successfully.
  • Accepted Vaccines:

    • CDC has determined that for purposes of travel to the United States, vaccines accepted will include FDA approved or authorized and World Health Organization emergency use listed vaccines.

What Problems Could Arise If A Vaccine Mandate Is Put In Place For Passengers

“Trying to move it to the passengers — it’s going to lead to a lot of challenges and I think a lot of unhappy consumers and some further losses to the airline industry, which has really suffered quite a bit in the last year and a half,” Hamer said of a vaccine mandate.

Hamer, who sits on the Flight Safety Foundation, a private nonprofit whose mission is to enhance education and improve flight safety, pointed to a turbulent past few days for Southwest Airlines. The Dallas-based carrier has canceled well over 2,000 flights coast to coast since Saturday, creating a domino effect at airports across the country.

The airline said bad weather and air traffic control issues in Florida kicked off the problems, which snowballed due to its own staffing shortfall, particularly a lack of backup pilots and flight attendants to step in when things go wrong. Other airlines had relatively minor cancellations.

“It is an issue and it’s actually generated problems,” Hamer said. “You never know, when you make a reservation, whether it’s going to stay as that reservation. They may rebook you to try and limit the number of outgoing flights and so if we do something — if there’s a mandate to require vaccination of every passenger — that would exacerbate that situation.”

    What Is Contact Tracing

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention requires all Passengers boarding an international flight to the U.S. to provide their contact information as listed below within 72 hours before their flight departs. The information may be used by U.S. public health officials to follow up with Passengers who may have been exposed to a contagious disease before or during travel. If there was exposure, public health officials have the information theyneed toenable prompt public health follow-up such as contacting those who may have been exposed and monitoring their health for signs and symptoms.

What information will I need to provide?

    • Your name
    • Where you’re staying while in the U.S.
    • Primary phone number including country code, at which you can be contacted while in the United States
    • Secondary phone number including country code
    • Email address

    Who’s Requiring Proof Of Vaccination

Qantas Airlines First to Require COVID Vaccine for ...

Some of the biggest names in travel are now requiring proof of vaccination for staff, guests, or both. In early October, following an announcement by President Biden that all U.S. government contract workers would be required to be vaccinated, three major airlines introduced vaccine mandates for their employees. American Airlines told its staff that the carrier is classified as a federal subcontractor, and therefore, all employees would need to be vaccinated or could no longer work at the company, according to a company-wide memo obtained by Reuters.

Southwest Airlines also confirmed that its employees were subject to the new rules for federal contractors and told its staff that barring an approved exemption, everyone would need to get the vaccine by December 8 in order to continue employment. JetBlue and Alaska Airlines also said they would require all employees to be vaccinated due to Biden’s mandate, the New York Times reports.

Earlier this summer, United, Frontier, and Hawaiian airlines gave their employees fall deadlines for getting vaccinated , and with the U.S. Food and Drug Administrations full approval of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine on August 23, at least one carrier, United, has already shortened that deadline by several weeks.

Hotels like Public in New York City are now requiring guests to show proof of vaccination.

    Vaccine Requirements For Travellers

Effective October 30, air passengers departing from Canadian airports, travellers on VIA Rail and Rocky Mountaineer trains, and travellers on non-essential passenger vessels on voyages of 24 hours or more, such as cruise ships, will need to be vaccinated.

Effective October 30, travellers will need to be fully vaccinated in order to board. Specifically, the vaccination requirement will apply to all travellers 12 years of age and older who are:

    • Air passengers flying on domestic, transborder or international flights departing from airports in Canada

First Person In The World Receives A Fourth Dose Of The Covid

An Israeli hospital is studying the effectiveness and safety of a fourth dose of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Well, Im excited to be the first person, apparently, in the world who got the fourth booster of the Covid vaccine. And to paraphrase an old saying, its a small jab in the shoulder, probably a giant step for mankind. What were planning to study is how, first of all, the immunogenicity, how much the immune response of 150 volunteers who volunteered to participate, how high will their antibody response be? Were checking both antibodies and T-cell response and later on also the B-cell repertoire. And, of course, were looking at safety as well.

An Israeli hospital on Monday began a study to test the safety and effectiveness of a fourth dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, as health officials continued to deliberate over rolling out fourth shots for vulnerable people nationwide.

Officials at Sheba Medical Center, near Tel Aviv, said that their study was the first of its kind in the world and involved administering an additional shot to 150 medical personnel who had received a third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at least four months ago.

With studies showing that Covid vaccines still protect people from getting seriously ill from Omicron, a panel of medical experts advising the Israeli government recommended last week that health officials offer a fourth shot for people ages 60 and older, for those with weaker immunity and for medical workers.

What Does This Mean For The Travel Industry As A Whole

    Airlines preparing to transport COVID

COVID-19 vaccine requirements in the travel sector, like many other COVID-era changes, are likely here to stay until the pandemic is squarely behind us, says Harris. And they shouldnt be too surprising for travelers, who have long been required to show proof of vaccination for diseases like yellow fever when traveling to certain countries. Harris also likened the situation to increased security screening measures at airports after the September 11 terrorist attacks. We dont have a choice, just as we didnt post-9/11, says Harris. You had to be screened for whatever you were carrying or you didnt get on an aircraft. There were a lot of things that shifted after 9/11 that people believed were inconveniences and maybe even some people viewed them as a violation of their civil liberties. Well, this is the way it has to be.

Beyond that, some confusion among travelers is likely to continueand the industrys full recovery efforts will likely remain slowuntil the U.S. government or an international group like the World Health Organization steps in to implement standardized rules, says Ferrara. Travel-related, tourism and hospitality companies are being forced to step in and develop their own policies and enforce them, which to me is really a big issue, says Ferrara. As a result, the landscape is fractured and that creates consumer confusion around where can I travel, whats required of me to travel? And that extends to restaurants and all sorts of businesses.

Fauci Says Us Should Consider Vaccine Mandate For Domestic Air Travel

    • In an interview Monday on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Dr. Anthony Fauci said a vaccine mandate for domestic air travel is worth considering.
    • International travelers must show proof of vaccination and a negative Covid test in order to board a U.S.-bound flight, and also wear a mask.

The federal government should consider requiring Covid-19 vaccines for domestic flights, the nation’s top infectious disease expert said Monday.

“When you make vaccinations a requirement, that’s another incentive to get more people vaccinated,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci in an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.””If you want to do that with domestic flights, I think that’s something that seriously should be considered.”

There is no indication at this point that a vaccine mandate is on its way for U.S. flights. When asked on MSNBC, Fauci, White House chief medical advisor, declined to say whether he has made the recommendation to President Joe Biden.

The White House, when asked for comment, referred CNBC to Biden’s statement to ABC News last week, “It’s been considered,” Biden said, “but the recommendation I’ve gotten, it’s not necessary.”

The travel industry, meanwhile, expressed opposition to a vaccine mandate for domestic travel when Fauci made a similar suggestion in September.

Already, U.S. passengers must wear masks to board planes and keep them on for the duration of the flight except when eating or drinking.

Vaccine Requirements For Employees In The Federally Regulated Transportation Sector

As of October 30, employers in the federally regulated air and rail, and as of November 1, marine transportation sectors will be required to establish vaccination policies for their organizations. Specifically, the vaccination requirement will apply to:

    • airlines and airports, and other organizations who have employees who enter restricted areas of airports, such as concession and hospitality workers
    • federally regulated railways, and their rail crew and track employees

Transport Canada will use its specific regulatory and oversight authorities related to operations of federally regulated air, rail, and marine transportation service providers to ensure that the transportation system and these workplaces are safe through vaccination mandates. Each organization will be required to implement a rigorous policy, which must:

    • Include a provision for employee attestation/declaration of their vaccination status
    • Include a description of consequences for employees who do not comply or who falsify information and
    • Meet standards consistent with the approach taken by the Government of Canada for the Core Public Administration.

After a short phase-in period, each organization is required to guarantee employees are fully vaccinated or they will be unable to work.

The Government of Canada is engaged with industry and labour groups to discuss the details to ensure an effective implementation of the requirements.

Us Flight Attendant Union Criticizes New Cdc Isolation Requirements

    From CNN’s Greg Wallace

The Association of Flight Attendants is criticizing the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s new isolation guidelines for those who test positive for Covid-19, saying it will be on the lookout for employees being pressured to return to work prematurely. The association notes that the five-day period only applies to those who are asymptomatic.

The CDC gave a medical explanation about why the agency has decided to reduce the quarantine requirements from 10 to five days, but the fact that it aligns with the number of days pushed by corporate America is less than reassuring,” the association says in a statement.

“We cannot allow pandemic fatigue to lead to decisions that extend the life of the pandemic or put policies on the backs of workers. Already the lack of paid sick leave creates pressure on workers to come to work sick. Corporations that fail to recognize this with paid sick leave, or pressure workers to come to work sick or face discipline, are failing their workers and their customers,” the statement continues.

Earlier Monday, the CDC shortened the recommended times that people should isolate when they’ve tested positive for Covid-19 from 10 days to five days if they don’t have symptoms and if they wear a mask around others for at least five more days.
