NJ Asks for Volunteers to Help With Coronavirus Vaccine Rollout | NBC10 Philadelphia

Those who completing the pre-registration should receive a confirmation message indicating their eligibility group. An additional notification will be sent when that group becomes eligible, Persichilli said.

The state expects the vaccination portal to eventually include a way to make appointments at available vaccination locations. Appointment will likely continue to be required to avoid wasting prepared doses.

Once we link the sites up to the portal, youll be able to register, Persichilli said. There will be a drop down, youll identify where you want to go, and you can sign up for an appointment.

What Share Of The Population Has Been Partly Or Fully Vaccinated Against Covid

The following charts show the breakdown of vaccinations by those that have been partly or fully vaccinated. A person is considered partly vaccinated if they have received only one dose of a 2-dose vaccine protocol. A person is considered fully vaccinated if they have received a single-dose vaccine or both doses of a two-dose vaccine.

This data is only available for countries which report the breakdown of doses administered by first and second doses.

How Do I Know If I Qualify As High

People who qualify for the vaccine now are those with medical conditions defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as increasing the risk of severe illness from COVID-19. They include:

  • Cancer

  • COPD

  • Down syndrome

  • Heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies

  • Obesity

  • Severe obesity

  • Sickle-cell disease

  • Smoking

Nj To Phase Out Vaccine Megasites

Murphy says the six mega-sites will be phased out, with Gloucester and Atlantic counties only giving second vaccines and other sites also winding down. He said the smaller sites can handle the dwindling demand for vaccines.

For the past five months, these sites have been the backbone of our vaccination effort having delivered more than 2 million doses of the vaccine, Murphy said. He congratulated the health care groups that helped provide essential on-the-ground services to make the service available, with 954,000 people receiving vaccinations at these sites.

Johnson & Johnson in third phase COVID-19 vaccine trial

More New Yorkers will be able to get the coronavirus vaccine as of Monday while residents in New Jersey are waiting to hear when the next categories of people in the Phase 1b group will be eligible, including residents who are over 75 years old.

In New York essential workers and adults over age 75 can now line up to get their doses, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said on Friday.

We are establishing a network of thousands of providers statewide to both supplement the work of hospitals to vaccinate health care workers, as well as begin the vaccination of other essential workers and individuals 75 and older, Cuomo said. The federal government controls the supply, so as we continue to receive more, New York will not only ensure doses are distributed in the most fair and socially equitable way possible, but that health care workers continue to be prioritized so our hospitals remain safe and staffed.

Some 3.2 million New Yorkers are included in the 1b group, including 870,000 education workers, 207,000 first responders, 100,000 public safety workers, 100,000 public transit workers and 1.4 million people who are 75 and older, the state said.

So far, New Jersey has only opened its vaccines up to a smaller segment of 1b members: police and fire personnel.

Thats something that still needs to be discussed, he said.

Vaccine Development: Vaccines Approved For Use And In Clinical Trials

The speed at which the first COVID-19 vaccines were developed was extraordinary. We have previously looked into the history of vaccine development. The measles vaccine was found relatively rapidly: it took only 10 years from the discovery of the pathogen to the development of the first vaccine. But for typhoid it took more than a century, and for some diseases for which weve known the pathogens for more than a century we still havent found an effective vaccine.

The development of a vaccine against COVID-19 has been much faster than the development of any other vaccine. Within less than a year several successful vaccines have already been announced and were approved for use in some countries.

The hope is that even more manufacturers develop vaccines for COVID-19. This will be important because eventually a very large share of the world population needs to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.

We are on the way to several vaccines against COVID-19 vaccine trackers monitor the progress:

Several institutions maintain websites on which they list COVID-19 candidate vaccines that are currently being developed:

    Oxford/AstraZeneca, Sinopharm/Beijing, Sinovac, Sputnik V

What Should I Do With My Vaccine Card

You should get a small white card at your vaccination appointment with your name, birth date, name of the vaccine you received and the date it was administered. If you receive the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, bring your card when you get your second shot. You may need your vaccine card to schedule a third vaccine dose, for certain immunocompromised people, or a booster shot. You may also need it for certain kinds of travel or other activities and may want to take a photo of it with your smartphone for your own records. But experts warn that posting a photo of your card to social media could make you vulnerable to identity theft. If youve lost your vaccine card, call the site where you were vaccinated to request a new one or a copy of your vaccination record. You can also contact your state health department to request a replacement card or a copy of your record.

Long-Term care residents and staff get vaccine

Its too soon to know a specific timeframe for when groups other than health care workers and nursing home residents and staff will be able to get their doses of the coronavirusvaccine, the Department of Health said late Tuesday. But the state has set guidelines on what groups of people will get the vaccine and in what order.

The Centers for Disease Control and Preventions COVID map said New Jersey had vaccinated 120,947 people vaccinated as of Tuesday morning.

Recommendations for which groups should get the vaccine and in what order were released by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in December, mirroring plans in the states 182-page plan for vaccine distribution.

After the 1a vaccine recipients get their doses, the 1b group, made up of frontline essential workers and people who are 75 and older, will be next.

The 1b group includes police, fire and other first responders, food service workers, educators, support staff and daycare workers, public transit workers and workers who support radio, print, internet and television news and media services, according to the states updated 188-page vaccination plan that was released in December. Other critical and essential workers are also included in 1b, the plan said.

Though there is no firm date, Persichilli said Wednesday, though she estimated that could be by the spring.

Who Will Be Next In Line For The Shot

Other members of the 1b group will be next to be vaccinated, though no timetable has been announced. Occupations in that group include other first responders, food service workers, educators, support staff and daycare workers, public transit workers and workers who support radio, print, internet and television news and media services, according to the states updated 188-page vaccination plan that was released in December. Other critical and essential workers are also included in 1b, the plan said.

People ages 75 and older will also be part of Phase 1b, the Department of Health said Thursday.

Phase 1c will follow. That would include those between the ages of 16 and 64 with high-risk conditions and other adults aged 65 to 75, according to the plan. It would also include people living or working in congregate or overcrowded settings such as colleges and universities, migrant workers and tribal populations, who were listed by an earlier version of the plan as in the 1b category, the plan said. Again, no timetable has been announced by the state.

New Jerseys Phased Approach To Covid

Vaccination for COVID-19 began in New Jersey on Dec. 15. Continuing into early 2021, vaccine access will be given to New Jersey’s Phase 1A Group: health care workers, those who are paid and unpaid persons serving in healthcare settings who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients or infectious materials, and long-term care residents and staff.

During 2021, additional people will become eligible to receive vaccination in New Jersey. Decisions about priority groups and how the doses will be spread across the state may change based on changes in vaccine supply and public demand.

New Jersey has experienced over 400,000 positive cases and approximately 16,000 deaths associated with COVID-19. Vaccination is the latest tool to help stop the spread.
