What State Has The Lowest Covid Cases

Restrictions Lifted In Vermont

Coronavirus in Georgia | State has one of the lowest case rates

A number of municipalities in Vermont have decided to require masks within town or city borders. Vermont lifted all of its remaining COVID-19 restrictions June 14 after becoming the first state in the U.S. to have 80% of its eligible population get one dose of the vaccine. All remaining restrictions about wearing masks, physical distancing, or crowd size limits had been rescinded by the state.

Affected sectors:Outdoor recreation, Retail

Caseload:The number of confirmed new cases is growing, with 3,165 for the seven days ending December 22 compared to 2,826 the seven days prior.

Are The Most Vulnerable Counties Being Vaccinated

Speed isnt the only priority for the countrys vaccination campaign. The Biden administration has also committed to distributing shots equitably to the communities most affected by the pandemic.

Yet many months into the rollout, the most socially vulnerable counties in the U.S. have a lower vaccination rate on average than the nations least vulnerable. The majority of the most disadvantaged counties with the fewest fully vaccinated people are in the South, while the most vaccinated, least vulnerable counties are in the Midwest and Northeast.

Vaccination Rates By County Social Vulnerability

Counties are ranked according to the Social Vulnerability Index, a C.D.C. indicator used in public health crises that is based on socioeconomic status, housing, transportation, race, ethnicity and language. Each countys vaccination rate is its share of all residents that have been fully vaccinated, a figure that does not reflect those who have only received one dose of a two-shot vaccine.

This table shows the number of cases by source of infection in the last 24 hours and last 7 days as well as the number of active cases that have occurred in Australia.

State and territory totals reflect where a person has been tested and public health management occurred, which may differ from their normal place of residence.

The majority of total confirmed cases and deaths are from Victoria.

The number of confirmed cases and deaths reported in each state and territory since the first case was reported in late January 2020. State and territory totals reflect where a person has been tested and public health management occurred, which may differ from their normal place of residence.

As per the COVID-19 national guidelines, a COVID-19 confirmed case is a person who:

  • tests positive to a validated specific SARS-CoV-2 nucleic acid test or
  • has the virus isolated in cell culture, with PCR confirmation using a validated method or
  • undergoes a seroconversion to or has a significant rise in SARS-CoV-2 neutralising or IgG antibody level .

Probable and historical cases are currently included in the total number of cases reported by some jurisdictions, these are defined as per the COVID-19 national guidelines.

Average Weekly Cases By Age

Breakthrough deaths among seniors may be because of immunosenescence, or the weakening of the immune system in older people, said Heather Scobie, an epidemiologist at the C.D.C. who helps lead the team that produced the new data.

They dont usually form as robust a response to vaccination, added Dr. Scobie. Hopefully the booster dose for ages 65 years and older will address that issue.

The federal data also makes it clear that all three brands of vaccine administered in the United States substantially reduced rates of cases and deaths. But among those vaccinated, Johnson & Johnson recipients had slightly higher rates of breakthrough cases and related deaths. And Pfizer-BioNTech recipients had slightly higher rates than those who got Moderna.

Restrictions Tighten Slightly In Illinois

A statewide indoor mask mandate went into effect Aug. 29, and beginning Sept. 5, Pritzker said he would use his executive authority to require all workers in K-12 schools, all workers in private and public hospitals, nursing homes and other health care settings, and all workers and students in colleges and universities, to get vaccinated against COVID-19 or submit to weekly testing. Illinois had entered Phase 5 of reopening June 11, which removed all remaining capacity limits and restrictions on all sectors of the economy.

How Each State Compares To The National Share Of Fully Vaccinated People

U.S. marks lowest COVID-19 cases in nearly a year

There are many reasons eligible people are not vaccinated. Surveys have indicated that some people are adamant in their refusal of the coronavirus vaccines, while others are open to getting a shot but have been putting it off or want to wait and see before making a decision.

The first group, surveys have shown, tends to be disproportionately white, rural, evangelical Christian and politically conservative. The second group tends to be a more diverse and urban group, including many younger people, Black and Latino Americans, and Democrats.

In April, The New York Times analyzed vaccine records and voter records in every county in the United States and found that both willingness to receive a coronavirus vaccine and actual vaccination rates were lower, on average, in counties where a majority of residents voted to re-elect former President Donald J. Trump in 2020.

Average Weekly Deaths By Vaccination Status

Which Us States Have The Lowest Covid Cases

Compared with the unvaccinated, fully vaccinated people overall had a much lower chance of testing positive for the virus or dying from it, even through the summers Delta surge and the relaxation of pandemic restrictions in many parts of the country. But the data indicates that immunity against infection may be slowly waning for vaccinated people, even as the vaccines continue to be strongly protective against severe illness and death.

The No. 1 take-home message is that these vaccines are still working, said Dr. David Dowdy, an epidemiologist at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. If you saw these data for any disease other than Covid, what everyones eyes would be drawn to is the difference between the unvaccinated and fully vaccinated lines.

The data shows notable differences in breakthrough death rates by age and slight differences in both case and death rates by vaccine brand, trends that experts say are important to consider as tens of millions of Americans weigh whether to get a booster shot.

The data, from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is based on health department records from 14 states and two cities. A second dashboard reveals similar trends for hospitalized patients with and without vaccination.

All vaccinated age groups saw similar rates of breakthrough infection, and they all had much lower rates of infection and death compared with their unvaccinated peers.

Restrictions Lifted In Georgia

Gov. Brian Kemp issued an executive order Aug. 19 that bans cities from requiring businesses to enforce local restrictions aimed at curbing the coronavirus pandemic. Georgia’s state of emergency ended July 1. Restrictions on restaurants, bars, conventions, child care facilities and live performance venues were lifted May 31, and the executive order also prohibited schools from requiring students or employees to wear masks. Kemp on April 30 signed an executive order lifting social distancing requirements for restaurants and ending safety guidelines for gyms, movie theaters and personal care businesses.

School districts in Arizona can enact their own mask and vaccine standards as a result of a sweeping court ruling. Gov. Doug Ducey on March 25 had lifted COVID-19 restrictions on Arizona businesses and events and prohibited, in most cases, the enforcement of local mask mandates. Events drawing more than 50 people, such as youth sports tournaments and concerts, no longer require governmental approval. Businesses including bars, restaurants, gyms, theaters and water parks can operate at full capacity.

Who Is Eligible For A Vaccine

Florida Leads U.S. In Lowest Covid Cases, DeSantis Touts Progress

The United States has reached a new milestone in its vaccine rollout: children ages 5 to 11 are now eligible for a vaccine, after the F.D.A. authorized use of the Pfizer vaccine for this age group.

In May the F.D.A. had expanded its emergency use authorization of that vaccine for children 12 and older, allowing young adolescents to start getting vaccinated before school started in the fall of 2021.

And in April every state had made those 18 and older eligible for the shots, according to a Times survey. This universal eligibility followed months where states relied on complicated phase-based plans that prioritized certain vulnerable individuals like older Americans, critical workers and those with certain medical conditions. Often, county plans differed from state plans.

Restrictions Lifted In Alaska

There is no mask requirement in Alaska, however the state recommends mask wearing in public spaces where physical distancing isn’t possible. This summer the state also opened its borders to all travelers and is offering visitors a free COVID vaccine. The state’s emergency declaration expired in February. Gov. Mike Dunleavy announced life could go back to the way it was “prior to the virus” on May 22, 2020, but local governments could still offer health guidance.

How Did Coronavirus Spread

Covid-19 was first detected in the city of Wuhan, China, in late 2019 but the outbreak spread quickly across the globe in the first months of 2020.

It was declared a global pandemic by the WHO on 11 March 2020.

A pandemic is when an infectious disease is passing easily from person to person in many parts of the world at the same time.

Florida Coronavirus Cases Tick Up But Infection Rate Remains One Of The Lowest In The Country

Jake Stofan, Tallahassee correspondent

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. Weekly coronavirus cases have been steadily rising in the Sunshine State over the past three weeks, with a 24% increase from the week of Nov. 26 to the week of Dec. 3 alone.

Last week, 13,530 COVID-19 cases.

Its minuscule compared to this summer when the state was racking up more than 20,000 cases a day, but epidemiologists say it is something to keep an eye on.

The uptick in cases is not necessarily unexpected, said Dr. Cindy Prins, an epidemiologist at the University of Florida.

Last year, the states winter surge was worse than the 2020 summer spike, but Prins doesnt expect a repeat this winter.

This year we have the benefit of vaccines, so I dont expect our winter spike to be quite as high, said Prins.

Dr. Jason Salemi, an epidemiologist at the University of South Florida, points out Florida currently has some of the lowest infection and hospitalization rates in the country.

Were fourth lowest in the country on new hospitalization rates, said Salemi.

But Salemi notes its not yet clear how omicron will play into a potential winter surge.

The early indications are that its less likely to cause severe illness, but I think its a little too quick to say that definitively, said Salemi.

One thing is clear. Even if we do see a winter spike, the governor has no intentions of returning to lockdowns or mandates.

Wearing masks and definitely getting vaccinated, said Prins.

The Pace Of Vaccinations Has Been Steadily Climbing Since The Summer

What States Have Low Covid Cases

Based on the seven-day average of people becoming fully vaccinated each day.

But the pace of vaccinations varies across the country. Many states in the South and West, for example, have fully vaccinated a smaller share of their population than in other regions.

On Dec. 9, the C.D.C capped its vaccination rate figures at 95 percent, after acknowledging that it may be overestimating first doses of the vaccine and underestimating booster shots. As a result, even locations that have exceeded that vaccination rate will remain at 95 percent.

The C.D.C. said on its website that the cap helps address potential overestimates of vaccination coverage due to first, second, and booster doses that were not linked. Other possible reasons for overestimation, according to the agency, include census population data that excludes part-time residents or reporting errors.

Breakthrough Infections Remain Low Percentage Of Total Covid

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. Breakthrough cases are being reported in the state, but the number remains relatively low. Roughly 97 percent of breakthrough COVID-19 cases in Massachusetts have not resulted in hospitalization or death, which continues the point from health professionals that getting the shot does work.

Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren is urging people to get vaccinated after announcing over the weekend that she has tested positive for COVID-19. Its a breakthrough case because she is fully vaccinated and has received her booster, but thats not uncommon.

According to the State Department of Public Health, 88,968 vaccinated residents have gotten COVID-19 since December 2020. That makes up two percent of the states vaccinated population. Unvaccinated residents in the state were five times more likely to be infected than those who are fully vaccinated.

Dr. Daniel Skiest, an infectious disease physician at Baystate Health, told 22News, We know that two doses of vaccine may not be that helpful. Three, which is with the booster, there is some protection especially against severe disease.

The DPH said unvaccinated people were 31 times more likely to get COVID than those who were boosted. Health experts are concerned with the combination of holiday gatherings and the omicron variant sweeping the nation.
