Visiting Las Vegas During Covid
Here’s how Las Vegas has adapted in the COVID-19 pandemic.
Las Vegas, the city known most for gambling, live entertainment, and conventions, looks quite a bit different since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Despite projections that Nevada would be the second most impacted state by the pandemic shutdowns, Las Vegas is currently open with a number of safety measures in place1. Nevada relies on tourism more than any other state in the U.S., so keeping tourists safe is their number one priority2. My partner and I recently took a weekend trip to Las Vegas to see firsthand how the city was adapting.
Go Back In Time At The Golden Gate Casino
After opening in 1906, the Golden Gate still stands as the oldest operating casino resort in Las Vegas. Check out some of the history with an artifact display in the lobby that includes 113-year-old gaming ledgers, an authentic model of the first telephone in Vegas, and Prohibition-era whiskey bottles discovered in the walls during construction.
How Cheap Is A Reopened Vegas
Summer is usually a great time to find deals in Vegas, and we expect to see better-than-normal offers in the near term. Those who gamble may see targeted offers comparable to the deals of yesteryear when even moderately profitable gamblers were given offers of multiple free nights.
But will resort fees go on a hiatus? That would be nice but isnt the across-the-board approach so far. In fact, as coronavirus was worsening in the weeks before the shutdown, we saw multiple Caesars casinos increase resort fees. But the weeks before the shutdown also saw sub-$100 rates at the higher-end resorts that typically price at a few times that amount.
That said, Sahara is offering rates with no parking or resort fees to residents of many states and weve seen offers from the Cosmo with waived resort fees targeted at select guests.

Enjoy The Fresh Taste Of Local Artisanal Bread
$Multiple LocationsIs there anything better than fresh-baked bread during the fall season? Cottage-industry bakeries are growing in popularity with delicious recipes straight from the kitchen. Brett Boyer and Brendon Wilharber of Desert Bread sell baked goods out of their home driveway east of the airport on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Everything is all natural and organic with fruit sourced from a local orchard. The wide selection includes sourdough bread, New York-style bagels, French-inspired croissants, and much more. Bread Day is a one-woman operation by Isabela Moraes, a former Olympic-level swimmer who performed in Le Reve. She originally sold bread to her castmates and now makes it available on Saturdays at the Tivoli Village farmers market. You’ll see an appreciation of darker grains and fun stuff like a purple sweet potato ciabatta. Kris and Ryan Wilson of 5098 Bread learned the art of breadmaking while traveling in Uruguay and now sell products at Las Vegas farmers markets throughout the week. Their sourdough starter is not only used in the bread, but also a popular chocolate chip cookie. Placing orders in advance for all three businesses is highly recommended.

What Things Are There To Do In Las Vegas During Covid
Many of Las Vegas’s top attractions are reopening, but there’s also a whole host of other great things to do in Las Vegas during COVID-19. Just outside the city, you’ll find some of the country’s most fascinating landscapes. Zion National Park and of course, the Grand Canyon, are both bucket list-worthy options for exploring the great outdoors.
Temperature Screenings And Sanitation
Just like at nongaming hotels, casino resorts have boosted their sanitation measures to keep guests and employees safe. Wynn has installed noninvasive thermal cameras at each entry point, and, Any person displaying a cough, shortness of breath or other known symptoms of COVID-19 or a temperature above 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit will be discreetly offered a secondary screening by staff donning masks and eye protection.
Venetian resorts have the same procedures, with those who present a temperature over 100.4 degrees Fahrenheit undergoing a further medical assessment and being directed to other medical care.
Of course, sanitization and disinfection are central to the plans of all major resort casinos. As mentioned, stations dispensing hand sanitizer, regular disinfecting of public spaces and other customer-facing areas, and access to disinfecting wipes and other PPE is located all around the resort and casino grounds.

Most Nightclubs And Parties Are Closed Down
The Nevada governor ordered nightclubs and most daytime clubs shut down. That means popular venues like Omnia and Marquee Las Vegas are closed for now.
There is some good news for club kids. Day clubs are offering socially distanced and adults-only pool parties. Crowds are much smaller , and youll need reservations and a table. Some of those pool parties are even during nighttime hours.
Most are featuring music by local resident DJs. You arent likely to see big-name DJs until COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

The Hotels Seemed Crowded But There Were A Lot Of Safety Measures In Place
When we arrived in the parking garage of the Flamingo Las Vegas Hotel and Casino on a Friday night, it was packed.
The lot was already almost completely full at 10 p.m. and we had to wind our way up to the top floor to find a spot.
I noticed some of the hotels on the Strip were still offering valet service, but I was more comfortable with parking my own car.
There were a lot of people outside of the hotel, too.
Upon entering the hotel’s lobby, it was clear that this was not the Vegas that I was used to visiting, but that was totally OK with me. I know all of the safety measures in place are designed to protect the city’s visitors and residents.
As soon as I stepped into the hotel, I saw hand-sanitizer dispensers and spacing markers on the floor everywhere I looked.
The most prominent, center display at the hotel’s gift shop was a selection of brightly colored masks, instead of the usual clubbing clothes and swimsuit displays.

Fall In Love At The Waterfall Atrium
Take a break from the action with a photo op at the Waterfall Atrium. You’ll find it in the blurred lines of where the main Venetian hotel tower connects with the Palazzo wing. Between a two-story waterfall, the word “LOVE” spelled in 12-foot-tall ruby red steel letters, and more than a few seasonal decorations hanging around, it’s one of the best places on the Strip to snap a selfie.
Is It Safe To Travel To Las Vegas Right Now During Covid
Disclaimer: Travel restrictions and governmental regulations can change rapidly and the information below might be outdated within a few hours. Therefore, double-check all information with your embassy or on official websites. Traveling Lifestyle does not take any responsibility for your decision to travel.
Nevada does not require testing or quarantine for domestic visitors. International arrivals need to comply with the federal laws and bring a negative COVID-19 test result no older than 72 hours prior to their arrival.
The full capacity of all establishments has been reestablished and almost all COVID-19 related restrictions have been lifted, especially for vaccinated travelers. However, the number of COVID-19 cases has surged across Nevada and, therefore, traveling there should be in the next few weeks reconsidered.

Las Vegas Hotel Covid
Our trip began by checking into our hotel, The Palazzo, and as soon as we arrived, I noticed signage everywhere encouraging social distancing and enforcing the mask requirement. Nevada is currently under a mask mandate, and they appear to be taking it very seriously. Forget your mask? Donât worry â nearly every entrance was staffed with workers enforcing the mask requirement and passing out masks to people who didnât have one.
If youâre checking in with a group, only one person per party is allowed to check in at the front desk. The normally crowded line is now sparse with floor stickers marking every six feet. The front desk staff wore masks and gloves, and were protected by plastic plexiglass barriers.
On our way into the hotel, we passed two âtemperature checkâ stations. These stations had thermal cameras that overlooked the crowd in an effort by the hotel to prohibit anyone with a fever from entering.
When we made it to the elevator, there was a hotel staff member that pressed the elevator buttons for us. Only four guests were allowed per elevator, and we never ran into any issues with the capacity rule. Guests were very accommodating and often waited for the next elevator.

Browse The Pinball Hall Of Fame
The Pinball Hall of Fame is one of the museums that make Las Vegas wonderfully weird. It moved into a new, larger Strip location in 2021 and now houses vintage pinball machines in an expansive 25,000-square-foot space. It’s the largest collection of its kind in the world, drawing heavily on the ’60, ’70s, and ’80s classic eras of pinball. Admission is free, but every machine can be played for 25 or 50 cents. And since the museum is a nonprofit, every coin collected goes directly to charity.

Park For Free On The Strip
Back in the good old days, parking was free on the Strip. A few years ago, some casino garages started charging, but policies have fluctuated during the pandemic. Here’s the latest rundown: Most MGM Resorts properties, Caesars Entertainment properties, and the Cosmopolitan charge but give locals the first three hours for free. The Venetian, Palazzo, Wynn, Encore, Tropicana, Strat, Sahara, Circus Circus, and Treasure Island have free parking garages for all. Most Downtown garages are continuing to charge, but rates are usually pretty low and most casinos validate anyway. Always check in advance for the latest policies.
