Desperate Ask The Internet For Help
These online communities of vaccine hunters have gotten incredibly good at tracking down appointments for people. If you or someone you know is older, or especially vulnerable, there are now countless keyboard warriors who are eager to help. For people with the most severe need, Kos, of the Vaccine Hunters/Angels group says, If you post on our page, in minutes well get you an appointment, she says. Theres always a way.
The nonprofit Massachusetts Covid Vaccination Help is another valuable resource. Its volunteers have helped nearly 20,000 people book appointments and counting.
How To Make A Rite Aid Covid Vaccine Appointment
Rite Aid also created a clinic inquiry tool to allow schools and organizations in its footprint to inquire about organizing on-site clinics conducted by the company’s pharmacy team.
“The online clinic inquiry tool provides an efficient way to help bring the vaccine directly into communities and reach people at schools, community centers, churches, and workplaces,” Rite Aid said in a news release.
Be Prepared To Schedule Family Members Separately
The vast majority of vaccine providers are only offering appointments one-at-a-time, generally through online sign-ups. So, without some blazing fast typing and a decent amount of luck, you are going to have trouble snagging multiple appointments at the same time and place.
This is what I tell people when they call me and theyre husband or wife – I always tell them, Im going to try to get you together. But at this point, its pretty much whatever you get, Holguin said.
The lone exception for multiple sign-ups that Holguin and James know of was WellMed, which has two vaccination sites in the city. A WellMed spokesman confirmed they will allow four or five people in the same family to register per phone call.
However, WellMed also has a reputation for being a notoriously frustrating way to get an appointment. Since it funnels all sign-ups through its phone system, it can take hundreds of calls before you get through – if you get through at all. So you may not want to put all your eggs in that basket.

Cvs Website Shows Covid
NORFOLK, Va. COVID-19 vaccine appointments filled up quickly at CVS pharmacies around Hampton Roads after the pharmacy said more would be available Thursday.
As of 8:30 a.m. Thursday, all appointments to get a shot at any store around the region were ‘fully booked’ according to the CVS website.
A corporate spokesperson confirmed that all appointments had been filled for the week, but said more appointments would be available next week when the pharmacy is expected to get its next shipment of vaccines in Virginia.
The pharmacy’s vaccine rollout didn’t go over smoothly this week.
When getting CVS onboard for vaccinations, the Virginia Department of Health requested it to only schedule appointments for people who had pre-registered at their local health departments and were waiting their turns for a shot.
That didn’t work, so VDH asked the pharmacy to open their schedule early and allow local health departments to register people themselves. However, CVS couldn’t limit online access to just the health districts, so anybody online could sign up for an appointment which led to more confusion and frustration.
CVS said they’re only giving shots to people ages 65 and over at this time even if they aren’t registered with their local health departments.
Appointments are added on a rolling basis as they become available. The pharmacy gets 26,000 vaccine doses each week which are divided between the 36 stores that are offering appointments.

Track When New Vaccine Slots Drop
Rastegayeva says she and her team have begun noticing patterns in when vaccine appointments are made available, which insiders are now calling drops. CVS, for example, tends to drop new vaccine slots in the middle of the night, from 12-1 a.m., and from 4-5 a.m. Walgreens tends to drop theirs around 7 a.m.
These are not hard and fast rules. Volunteer vaccine hunters weve spoken with have reported seeing big batches of appointments drop at 9 a.m. at some pharmacies, for example.

What Does The Cdc Recommend For People Who Are Fully Vaccinated
On May 13, the CDC updated its guidelines for fully vaccinated individuals. This is new guidance that fully vaccinated individuals will no longer have to wear masks or be physically separated unless federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial law is required. It is included. Rules and regulations, including local business and workplace guidelines. Please read the full description.
Follow County Officials And Vaccine Distribution Groups
While you are following groups on Facebook, its recommended that you also follow local officials for your area and groups that are in charge of mass vaccine clinics. In my own town, there have been a couple of occasions when a vaccine drive had far more no-shows than expected and they had several hundred vaccines leftover that were suddenly available.
This information was shared by the medical group providing the shots and the local county judge on Facebook. As you would expect, within an hour or so, all extra vaccines were spoken for, so check often and move quickly.

Strategy : Check Local Pharmacies During Overnight Hours
Pharmacies like Safeway, Walgreens, and CVS are offering shots. You can book directly with them, online. Their locations are convenient, but their appointments have been hard to get so far. Some folks online say batches of new appointments are loaded at midnight. So, we asked CVS about that. A rep said new appointments open at various times of the day.
We watched over a few hours one night.
Its system seemed to update about every 30 minutes. Midnight came and went with no big change. But then, we saw a spike around 1 a.m. The number of CVS locations with open slots statewide shot from just 15 to 149. It held steady for a bit. But then, around sunrise, we saw a steady morning drop-off. Almost all appointments were gone by 10 a.m.

The Us Has Wasted Over 82 Million Covid Vaccine Doses
Pharmacies, states, U.S. territories and federal agencies discarded 82.1 million Covid vaccine doses from December 2020 through mid-May just over 11 percent of the doses the federal government distributed, according to data the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shared with NBC News. Thats an increase from the 65 million doses the CDC told the Associated Press had been wasted as of late February.
Two retail pharmacy chains, CVS and Walmart, were responsible for over a quarter of the doses thrown away in the United States in that time period, in part due to the sheer volume of vaccine they handled.
Five other pharmacies or dialysis centers Health Mart, DaVita, Rite Aid, Publix and Costco wasted fewer overall doses, but a higher share: more than a quarter of the vaccine doses they received, well above the national average. Two states also discarded more than a quarter of their doses: Oklahoma, which tossed 28 percent of the nearly 4 million doses it received, and Alaska, which threw away almost 27 percent of its 1 million doses, according to the CDC data.

VDH Announces Roll Out of Vaccination Program at CVS Pharmacy
CVS Pharmacy has begun registering Virginians age 65 and older who are within the Phase 1b eligibility guidelines for vaccinations as part of the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program for COVID-19 Vaccination. As of today, eligible individuals can register at . CVS will begin administering vaccinations on Friday, February 12.
VDH worked closely with CVS over the last week to ensure that the CVS system follows Virginias priority guidelines and to provide an advance opportunity for eligible individuals already registered on VDH waiting lists. However, due to technological limitations with their national appointment system, CVS is unable to reserve appointments for pre-registered individuals. Virginia will continue to work towards a solution in partnership with other participating states and the federal government.
The federal program will supplement existing vaccination programs by providing 26,000 more vaccines to Virginians. CVS is the first of Virginias pharmacy partners in the federal pharmacy partnership to move forward with vaccinations. More pharmacies and more locations are expected to start vaccinating patients in the future.

How Are States Adjusting Priority Group Recommendations
In January and February, states responded differently to the push for expanded eligibility. This created confusion and frustration in some areas. Out of necessity, some states stuck to vaccinating only healthcare workers and long-term care residents, while others tried to accommodate the expanding list of priority groups.
As the pandemic raged on, reports of some healthcare workers turning down vaccines and states falling behind on moving supply raised concern that some vaccines were going to waste. As a result, federal health officials in early January began urging states not to stick too tightly to CDCs priority recommendations.
State public health departments can adapt and set their own guidelines to match their populations needs. California and New York were among the first states to announce they would loosen vaccine restrictions while still looking to be fair and protect the people most at risk.
As of early March, nearly half of frontline healthcare workers nationwide hadnt received a single dose of the vaccine, compared with 42% who have been fully vaccinated. Thats according to a survey from KFF/Washington Post. About two-thirds of healthcare workers in hospitals and outpatient clinics have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, but only 26% of those working with patients in their homes have received a vaccine.
Strategy Five: Join The Unofficial Waiting List
What about doses that are leftover at smaller clinics and pharmacies? NBC Bay Areas Scott Budman recently reported that the website Dr. B created a clever unofficial stand-by list.

If you’re concerned about taking time off from work to drive a couple hours, ask your boss or HR department if you can get paid time off for a vaccine. Many companies are offering this perk, even if they aren’t exactly advertising it to workers. The State of California requires some employers to pay employees.
What Do You Need To Know About The Johnson & Johnson Janssen Covid19 Vaccine
The FDA and CDC are convinced that the vaccine is safe and effective in preventing COVID19. Currently available data suggest that the chances of developing a rare blood disorder ) are very low and that the benefits of the vaccine outweigh the risks.
In women aged 18-49, this side effect is rare and occurs in about 7 out of 1 million vaccinated women. This side effect is even less common in women over the age of 50 and men of all ages. Women under the age of 50 should be aware that other COVID-19 vaccines for which this risk has not been observed are available.
patients receiving the Janssen vaccine should be monitored for severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath 2 weeks after dosing.
