When To Get A Covid Test

What Are The Symptoms Of Covid

How to test your child for coronavirus (Covid-19) in the UK

If you develop symptoms of COVID-19, even if they are mild, please contact your healthcare provider and a test site near you to schedule a test. You can also check your symptoms online.

Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus and may include:

  • Fever, chills or shaking chills
  • Signs of a lower respiratory illness
  • Fatigue, sore throat, headache, body aches/myalgia, or new loss of sense of taste or smell
  • Other less common symptoms can include gastrointestinal symptoms , rash, and inflammatory conditions such as COVID toes.
  • In elderly, chronically ill, or debilitated individuals such as residents of a long-term care facility, symptoms of COVID-19 may be subtle such as alterations in mental status or in blood glucose control

Point Of Care Testing Also Called Rapid Testing

Rapid Antigen Test:

This testing method identifies proteins on the outer surface of the virus. This type of testing is not as accurate as PCR testing.

  • Rapid antigen tests are used for screening purposes for people who do not have symptoms of COVID-19.
  • If you have symptoms, or are a close contact of a positive case of COVID-19, get a lab-based PCR test instead.
  • If the rapid antigen test result is positive, self-isolate at home and arrange for a PCR test within 24 hours. Continue to self-isolate while waiting for your PCR test result.

Rapid Molecular Testing:

Molecular testing is for both diagnostic and screening purposes. All POCT positives from molecular tests must be reported to the local public health unit.

Phase 1 Began July 29

Testing will continue to be available provincewide for individuals who are symptomatic at assessment centres. However, asymptomatic testing is no longer recommended, including testing for close contacts of COVID-19 cases. Instead, asymptomatic individuals should monitor for symptoms and isolate if they appear.

All travellers will receive calls from a live agent or automated system and you may also be visited at your place of quarantine by a Screening Officer to verify your compliance.

You are under a legal obligation to take the arrival and Day-8 tests. Failure to comply with the requirements of the Quarantine Act and emergency orders made under this Act is an offence and could lead to fines of up to $750,000 or imprisonment. If you do not take the tests, you may also be transferred to a designated quarantine facility.

Coronavirus Disease : How Is It Transmitted

We know that the disease is caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which spreads between people in several different ways.

The virus can spread from an infected persons mouth or nose in small liquid particles when they cough, sneeze, speak, sing or breathe. These particles range from larger respiratory droplets to smaller aerosols.

  • Current evidence suggests that the virus spreads mainly between people who are in close contact with each other, typically within 1 metre . A person can be infected when aerosols or droplets containing the virus are inhaled or come directly into contact with the eyes, nose, or mouth.
  • The virus can also spread in poorly ventilated and/or crowded indoor settings, where people tend to spend longer periods of time. This is because aerosols remain suspended in the air or travel farther than 1 metre .

People may also become infected by touching surfaces that have been contaminated by the virus when touching their eyes, nose or mouth without cleaning their hands.

Further research is ongoing to better understand the spread of the virus and which settings are most risky and why. Research is also under way to study virus variants that are emerging and why some are more transmissible. For updated information on SARS-CoV-2 variants, please read the weekly epidemiologic updates.

Travellers should consult their travel carriers guidelines to ensure they have the most up-to-date information about requirements. Travellers should also refer to the federal governments travel website for up-to-date expectations and requirements related to their destination.

If there is a requirement to provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test when traveling domestically or internationally, it is important to ensure ample time for testing and receiving results. This will enable people to book their testing times quickly without having to wait for a call from the testing centre.

The service can be used on a voluntary basis and provides an alternative option. When To Get Your Covid

Time — or more accurately, timing — is of the essence when it comes to getting a COVID-19 test for travel. The exact guidelines you need to follow will vary based on where you’re going, where you’re coming from and whether or not you’re visiting multiple locations.

In general, it’s a good idea to take your COVID-19 test so that you receive results within three days of travel. This means you can take a rapid antigen test 24 to 72 hours before traveling or you can take a PCR test four to six days before travel. PCR tests usually take 24 to 72 hours to process.
