Rite Aid Expands Covid
Rite Aid is offering Covid-19 vaccines at all locations, spanning more than 2,500 stores in 17 … states. the retailer said April 30, 2021.
Rite Aid is the latest retailer to expand U.S. availability of Covid-19 vaccines, offering them at all locations.
The drugstore chain, which has more than 2,500 stores in 17 states, said it made its move following the latest guidance from the Biden administration, which has made all those aged 16 years or older eligible for vaccination against Covid-19.
The move comes as supplies of vaccines from manufacturers Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer and Moderna have ramped up and appointments are becoming more readily available, including walk-ins at an increasing number of retail outlets and government-run locations.
While scheduling appointments in advance is recommended to reduce wait time and guarantee availability of the vaccine, Rite Aid is now also accommodating walk-in vaccines on a limited basis in every store, Rite Aid said Friday in a statement. Enabling walk-in appointments supports customers that may not have access to internet while also meeting the need for flexibility for customers. People interested in a walk-in appointment are encouraged to visit their local Rite Aid to confirm availability.
Already, Walgreens and CVS Health are offering Covid-19 vaccines in most U.S. states while Walmart, too, has greatly expanded vaccine access in recent weeks.
Is There A Difference In How The Vaccines Are Administered
Not at the time of injection. There are a few differences in administration: Moderna and Pfizer require two doses to be effective while Johnson & Johnson/Janssen only requires a single dose. For two-dose vaccines, Rite Aid ensures customers receive the same type of vaccine at the correct interval when they are automatically scheduled for their second appointment.
As of 4/23/21, the pause on the Johnson & Johnson/Janssen COVID-19 vaccine has been lifted.;Learn more.

The Federal Retail Pharmacy Program for COVID-19 Vaccination is a collaboration between the federal government, states and territories, and 21 national pharmacy partners and independent pharmacy networks. The program aims to increase access to the COVID-19 vaccine across the country by allowing the federal government to provide COVID-19 vaccines directly to pharmacies to vaccinate eligible individuals in their communities. This program supplements the existing and ongoing allocations provided to Rite Aid and other pharmacies that are provided through state and local jurisdictions.
Heres Where Rite Aid Is Offering Vaccinations
Rite Aid pharmacies began offering COVID-19 vaccinations in seven regions in mid-February, CBS 21 reported.
As of February 25, the locations receiving vaccines from the federal government include:
- New York City
- Washington state
Rite Aid noted on its website: We may also receive dose allocation directly from additional state and local jurisdictions. Rite Aid does not determine vaccine supply or which individual groups are eligible, but we are supporting state and local distribution plans. For more detail see our eligibility guide below.
Its likely that more locations will be added, but these are the regions where vaccinations are starting at Rite Aid pharmacies. Rite Aid will have 100 doses per store at the beginning, so supply is going to be limited. If you dont see an appointment available at first, youre encouraged to visit again and see when appointments start opening.
To see if you are eligible, Rite Aid provided an eligibility guideline for each state here. This includes states where Rite Aid isnt currently offering vaccinations, but may do so in the future.
