With Cdc Approval La County Begins Offering Covid
Booster shots of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccination officially became available Friday in Los Angeles County for select residents, with federal health officials giving final approval to the additional vaccine dose to bolster virus protection for higher-risk groups.
Starting today , eligible Los Angeles County residents can begin receiving their booster dose at any of the hundreds of sites offering the Pfizer vaccine, county Public Health Director Barbara Ferrer said in a statement. The booster dose offers enhanced protection for those fully vaccinated with the Pfizer vaccine six months ago who are at increased risk of getting COVID-19 and/or experiencing severe illness from COVID. The L.A. County vaccination network is prepared to offer boosters today while continuing to prioritize getting first doses to those eligible and not yet vaccinated.
An advisory panel for the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Thursday recommended Pfizer booster shots for people 65 and older, those in long-term care facilities and people 50-64 with underlying health conditions, as well as select people aged 18-49 with serious health issues.
CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky on Friday endorsed the recommendation, and expanded it to include people at increased risk of infection due to their occupation.
Many others were health care workers and people with severe risk of severe illness from COVID, she said.

Newsom’s announcement comes in response to rising COVID-19 infection numbers and hospitalizations statewide. According to state officials, there were nearly 3,000 people hospitalized in California due to COVID as of Monday, up from about 900 on May 15. The average daily rate of new cases is now at 9.6 per 100,000 people, up from 1.9 per 100,000 on May 15.
State officials noted that the daily infection rate among unvaccinated residents is believed to be more than 14 per 100,000, compared to about 2 per 100,000 among the vaccinated population. That equates to unvaccinated residents being infected at roughly seven times the rate of vaccinated people.

When Can Children Get A Covid
A COVID-19 vaccine made by Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech is safe and effective enough to give to younger teens, the Food and Drug Administration said Monday in authorizing its use.
The decision means adolescents aged 12 to 15 could qualify for shots within days.
Riverside County spokesperson Jose Arballo Jr. said health officials are “awaiting authorization from the state public health department before moving forward.”
The county is “looking forward to expanding eligibility when that takes place,” he added.
Your questions, answered:Younger teens and the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine
Riverside County Public Health Officer Dr. Geoffrey Leung said during a Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday that the earliest the county could provide vaccines to adolescents is the end of this week and potentially next week.
An advisory committee to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is scheduled to meet Wednesday to review the recommendation for authorization.
The Western States Safety Review workgroup plans to review the findings that day and provide its recommendation for California, Oregon, Nevada and Washington, according to Sami Gallegos, press secretary for California’s COVID-19 Vaccine Task Force.
Previously, a formal decision from the West Coast group has been made public the day after their meeting, Gallegos said.
What Share Of The Population Has Been Partly Or Fully Vaccinated Against Covid
The following charts show the breakdown of vaccinations by those that have been partly or fully vaccinated. A person is considered partly vaccinated if they have received only one dose of a 2-dose vaccine protocol. A person is considered fully vaccinated if they have received a single-dose vaccine or both doses of a two-dose vaccine.
This data is only available for countries which report the breakdown of doses administered by first and second doses.

Is Getting The Covid
The FDA has authorized three COVID-19 vaccines which have been shown to be safe and effective as determined by data from the manufacturers and findings from large clinical trials. This data demonstrates that the known and potential benefits of this vaccine outweigh the known and potential harms of becoming infected with COVID 19. CVS Health is only administering vaccines that have been authorized for use by the FDA and our COVID-19 vaccination services are being conducted in compliance with CDC guidance for safe delivery of vaccines.
Does Immunity/protection After Getting Sick With Covid

At this time, experts do not know how long someone is protected from getting sick again after recovering from COVID-19. The immunity someone gains from having an infection, called natural immunity, varies from person to person. Some early evidence suggests natural immunity may not last very long.
Both natural immunity and vaccine-induced immunity are important aspects of COVID-19 that experts are trying to learn more about, and CDC will keep the public informed as new evidence becomes available.

Vaccine Development: Vaccines Approved For Use And In Clinical Trials
The speed at which the first COVID-19 vaccines were developed was extraordinary. We have previously looked into the history of vaccine development. The measles vaccine was found relatively rapidly: it took only 10 years from the discovery of the pathogen to the development of the first vaccine. But for typhoid it took more than a century, and for some diseases for which weve known the pathogens for more than a century we still havent found an effective vaccine.
The development of a vaccine against COVID-19 has been much faster than the development of any other vaccine. Within less than a year several successful vaccines have already been announced and were approved for use in some countries.
The hope is that even more manufacturers develop vaccines for COVID-19. This will be important because eventually a very large share of the world population needs to receive a COVID-19 vaccine.
We are on the way to several vaccines against COVID-19 vaccine trackers monitor the progress:
Several institutions maintain websites on which they list COVID-19 candidate vaccines that are currently being developed:
Oxford/AstraZeneca, Sinopharm/Beijing, Sinovac, Sputnik V |
