Where To Get Covid Vaccine In Westchester County Ny

Getting Covid Vaccine At The Westchester County Center What You Need To Know

Parents protest proposed NY COVID vaccine mandate for students

The Westchester County Center in White Plains is one of the states COVID-19 vaccine mass distribution places.

An appointment is required before you go.

To see whether youre currently eligible for a vaccine and to seek an appointment, go to or call 1-833-697-4829. As of Wednesday, there were no available appointments at the Westchester County Center, according to the state’s website.

How many vaccines the state gets is decided by the federal government. According to the state’s COVID vaccine website, New York state received approximately 200,000 to 300,000 vaccines a week for more than 7 million people currently eligible, so supply is limited.

It could take up to 14 weeks or more for eligible residents to schedule their vaccine shot, according to the state.

Who Qualifies For A Booster Shot

Following guidelines set by ACIP and the CDC all individuals who are over the age of 18 are eligible to receive a Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 booster shot at least six months after their primary two-dose vaccination series.

The FDA and CDC also authorized the administration of a booster dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for patients ages 16-17 years, six months after receiving the second dose of their primary COVID-19 vaccination series.

Eligible individuals do not need to receive a booster shot that matches the formulation of their primary series. If individuals choose a booster dose that differs from their primary vaccine series, the manufacturers recommend individuals should check with their health care provider regarding the timing of the booster dose.

Additionally, individuals who are 18 years and old and received the Johnson & Johnson COVID- 19 vaccine may receive a single booster does of Johnson & Johnson , Moderna, or Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine at least two months after receiving their primary vaccination.

Patients who received a Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine and prefer to receive a Johnson & Johnson booster are encouraged to contact their primary care provider for best next steps or refer to vaccines.govfor more information.

If Youre Not Fully Vaccinated

Heres how you can reduce the risk of getting Covid-19 if you havent yet completed your vaccination series.

Avoid indoor dining, bars, gyms, movie theaters and nonessential shopping, as well as having friends over to your home, and indoor personal care services like haircuts and manicures. Given the severity of the outbreak in Westchester County, spending time inside with people from other households puts you at risk for getting the coronavirus or spreading it to others.

Whenever possible, you should choose delivery or curbside pickup instead of shopping in person. If shopping in person is the only option, limit yourself to buying only essential supplies, shop during less crowded hours and keep your visits as short as possible.

Avoid all nonessential travel. If you must take a taxi, open the windows and sit far away from others in the vehicle. If you need to take public transit, try to avoid rush hours and crowds so you can keep your distance from others. If you fly, choose less crowded flights or airlines that keep middle seats empty.

Weddings, funerals, concerts, sporting events and other gatherings that bring multiple households together are places where Covid can spread easily. At this level of risk, even outdoor events are not safe, so consider postponing. Religious services are safest when conducted outdoors and without singing.

Because of the extremely high risk of exposure to Covid in Westchester County, even outdoor dining and outdoor bars are unsafe.

Suspension Of New Referrals For Monoclonal Antibody Treatment For Covid

Montrose VA Begins Coronavirus Vaccines For Staff, Residents

Effective immediately, WMCHealth Network will not accept new referrals for the COVID-19 monoclonal antibody treatment. The currently available mAbs are not effective against the predominant SARS-Cov-2 variant, Omicron.

According to the most recent CDC estimates, the Omicron variant now accounts for 92% of new COVID-19 cases in our region. Studies conducted by the FDA and others have demonstrated that the currently available monoclonal antibodies Bamlanivimab/etesevimab and Casirivimab/imdevimab are ineffective against the Omicron variant.

The mAb Sotrovimab is expected to be effective against the Omicron variant however, national supplies and New York State allocations are extremely limited. Once Sotrovimab availability improves, we will resume referrals for mAb therapy.

Prevention remains the method of protection against COVID-19. We strongly recommend that all eligible people age 5 years and over receive COVID-19 vaccine and booster doses, and mask and test when appropriate.

Please contact your primary care provider if you have any questions about COVID-19 prevention or treatment.

We remain committed to providing optimal care to patients in our region and will update this site as soon as more information is available.

Gov. Kathy Hochul, Friday evening, announced that more than 40 new pop-up vaccination sites across New York State are planned. The effort is intended to fight the one-two-punch of the winter surge and the rapidly spreading Omicron variant.

These sites will begin this weekend and are part of a multi-week effort, in partnership with local county health departments and community partners, to build on the state’s outreach efforts to get all New Yorkers fully vaccinated and boosted, according to the governor.

“The winter surge is in full force, but we are not defenseless,” Hochul said announcing the initiative last night. “We have the tools to fight this virus and its variants: Get vaccinated, get the booster and wear a mask. We will continue working with local partners to make vaccines, boosters and testing widely available as soon possible so that all New Yorkers can protect themselves and their loved ones.”

In Westchester County, the first pop-up clinic will be held in Mount Vernon on Sunday.

Latimer: We are Monitoring Omicron COVID Variant, But No Crisis Yet

Westchester County Executive George Latimer gave residents an important update on Nov. 29 regarding COVID vaccination rates, booster shots, immunizing students and the new Omicron variant that has yet to be detected in Westchester, New York state or the USA as of Nov. 30.

Omicron has generated real concern. We cant overreact to bad news or good news we have to keep a steady hand. The single most important reason to fight COVID is to prevent people from dying. We have had 2356 total deaths in Westchester, but 2 fatalities over the past two weeks and 3 fatalities over the past three weeks, said Latimer who also added that hospitalizations from COVID stand at 52, compared to a peak of 108 a few months ago during the Delta Variant and 244 hospitalizations in Nov. of 2020 before a vaccine was available. We have had a low level of fatalities and hospitalizations even though we have had an increase in infections.

Both Latimer and Westchester County Health Commissioner Dr. Sherlita Amler attribute the fact that hospitalizations and fatalities are low to the fact that 92.2% of eligible Westchester residents over the age of 18 are vaccinated. And both Latimer and Dr. Amler continued to push for more county residents to get vaccinated and for residents to get their third booster shot if they can.
