Which Vaccine Can I Get For My Second Dose

Children ages 5 to 11 years will receive the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for their second dose.

If you are ages 12 to 29 years of age, the Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty COVID-19 vaccine is preferred over the use of the Moderna Spikevax COVID-19 vaccine to start a primary vaccine series and/or to complete aprimary vaccine series. This recommendation is to further minimize the rare risk of adolescents and young adults experiencing myocarditis and/or pericarditis after receiving a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine.

If you are aged 30 years or older and you received a first dose of an mRNA vaccine , you can get either mRNA vaccine for your second dose.

If you are 30 years of age or older and you received a first dose of AstraZeneca/COVISHIELD, an mRNA vaccine is now preferred for your second dose. This is based on emerging evidence of better immune response from this mixed vaccine schedule, and to mitigate the potential risk of Vaccine-Induced Immune Thrombotic Thrombocytopenia associated with viral-vector vaccines. Booster Dose Of Covid Vaccine

COVID-19 boosters are currently available through the Georgia Department of Public Health health districts and participating providers.

CDC recommends a booster dose of COVID-19 vaccine for all persons aged 18 or older, at least 6 months after completion of a mRNA vaccine primary series, or at least 2 months after receipt of the single primary dose Janssen vaccine. Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. Some people may have a preference for the vaccine type that they originally received and others, may prefer to get a different booster. CDCs recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots.

Adolescents aged 16-17 years may receive a single booster dose of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 at least 6 months after completion of the primary series, based on their individual benefits and risks. At this time, only the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is authorized and recommended for adolescents aged 16 and 17.

Can Children Get The Covid

Currently children age 5 and up can be vaccinated with the Pfizer pediatric vaccine. The Pfizer vaccine for children 5-11 years of age has the same active ingredients as the adult vaccine but is a smaller dose . The dosing schedule is the same for children, teens, and adults: two doses are given 21 days apart.

Over 6.5 million children have tested positive for COVID-19 in the US since the start of the pandemic. Even though COVID-19 is often milder in children than adults, some children can get very sick. Tens of thousands of children have been hospitalized with COVID-19 and over 900 children have died since the start of the pandemic. Since May 2020, over 5,500 children had Multi-system Inflammatory Syndrome , a serious condition in young people. Children may also get lasting health problems from COVID-19.

Getting your child vaccinated lowers their risk of getting infected with the COVID-19 virus and helps to protect them from these serious illnesses.

Children who get infected can spread the virus to others even if they donât feel sick. Getting vaccinated helps to protect friends and families, as well as the larger community. This includes protecting people with weak immune systems and children under 5, who canât be vaccinated yet.

LONDON — British authorities will offer a coronavirus vaccine to almost six million children from age 5 to 11, officials said Wednesday.

The government said young children will be offered a low-dose COVID-19 shot on a non-urgent basis beginning in April in England. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland also announced similar measures.

Parents can, if they want, take up the offer to increase protection against potential future waves of COVID-19 as we learn to live with this virus, Health Secretary Sajid Javid said.

The government’s independent vaccine advisory committee said while the virus does not pose a threat to most children, a very small number who are infected will develop serious disease.

Around 85% of those 12 and older in the U.K. have been fully vaccinated, but the country has lagged behind the United States and European countries like France, Germany and Italy in vaccinating younger children. Currently, children 11 and under are only eligible for a vaccine if they have medical conditions that put them at serious risk of complications from coronavirus.

Vaccination for pregnant women is recommended because they are at higher risk of complications from COVID-19 than women who are not pregnant. Messenger RNA vaccines such as Moderna or Pfizer are recommended since there is more data on the safety of these vaccines during pregnancy. Timelines for receiving your second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine:

• 56 days after your first dose if you received an mRNA vaccine

Important information:

• If you receive your COVID-19 vaccine at a mass vaccination clinic in London and Middlesex County, your second dose appointment will be booked at the time of your first dose appointment.
• Vaccine appointments can only be booked up to four weeks in advance. If you are not eligible to receive your second dose within the next four weeks, please try back closer to your second dose interval date. The online booking system will inform you when you can book your appointment.
• The mRNA vaccines are considered interchangeable for those who are 18 years of age or older. Depending upon the vaccine availability, you may receive a different mRNA vaccine for your second dose than you received for your first. Learn more

Can I Get A Third Dose

Moderately to severely immunocompromised individuals aged 30 years and older should be immunized with a third dose of mRNA vaccine . Individuals in the 12 to 29 year age group may be offered the Moderna Spikevax vaccine . This recommendation is based on new evidence that shows the Moderna Spikevax vaccine may have a slightly higher vaccine effectiveness and may provide longer protection against infection and severe COVID-19 outcomes compared to the Pfizer-BioNTech Comirnaty vaccine. Third dose appointments should be scheduled at least 28 days after the last dose of COVID-19 vaccine.

Individuals who are moderately to severely immunocompromised may have a lower immune response to COVID-19 vaccines compared to the general population. Individuals with these conditions can have an increased immune response after receiving an additional dose of an mRNA vaccine. Moderately to severely immunocompromised includes people with the following conditions:

If you meet any of these criteria, you can book a third dose appointment at a Regional Health Authority clinic , or contact your physician or pharmacist.

Other groups who may be eligible for a third dose include individuals who received a mixed vaccine schedule and who must:

• Travel for employment outside of Canada
• Travel for a medical procedure outside of Canada or,
• Attend school outside of Canada.

Third dose appointments should be scheduled at least 28 days after the last dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
